Perino: Bush 'Horrified' about VA shootings & are 'monitoring the situation' WTF does that mean?
http://newsblogs.chicagotribune.com/news_theswamp/2007/04/bush_horrified_.html

<snip>
The president “was horrified. His immediate reaction was one for deep concern for the families, the students, the professors and all the people of Virginia…” she said. “We are monitoring the situation.”

http://www.edmontonsun.com/News/World/2007/04/16/4034721.html
<snip>
Perino said it was premature to discuss whether Bush would travel to the Blacksburg area.

What does 'monitoring the situation' mean???

Little Lord PissyPants:
- is having his shill speak for him.
- has not made a public statement on his own about this tragedy
- is determining if it's worth his time to:
(all my opinion re: * )
a. speak out on his own
b. make a visit to the site
c. probably has to determine if it will and/or how it can benefit his War on Terror and raise money for the GOP, and how many times he can get 9/11, "War on Terror", Al Qaeda, and Iraq into a speechified public statement.

Today is a very sad day. to all the families and friends of the victims and survivors.

9. 4:15 EDT? Am assuming that would be the right time...
If he mentions 9/11, War on Terror, Iraq and/or Al Qaeda, I sure hope someone steps up to the plate to call him on his self-serving BS. :grr:

Thanks for the heads up! :hi:

BTW--LOVE your screenname! As a child, Virginia Dare, Mystery Girl by Augusta Stevenson was one of my favorite books!

2. Yeah, real concern. First line of the White House press release:
Edited on Mon Apr-16-07 02:44 PM by Aristus
"We believe in the right to bear arms..."

They put that FIRST, before any expression of sorrow, remorse, regret or concern.

What thugs. What gun-crazy, heartless thugs.

24. EXACTLY like the pre-invasion speech : "Do not destroy oil wells!"
They don't even make the slightest attempt to be subtle when it comes to their own agenda...

4. It means he is sitting in a chair staring
vacantly into space after having his reading story interupted - - again.

Someone had to pull him off the chair and tell him to make a statement. He's probably trying to sober up as we type. Watch him tie it to 9/11 or Clinton in some fashion.

Don't take this wrong but how convenient the onus will be off lil al's testimony tomorrow.

6. Ok We all hate President Bush
And with good reason (he is frankly a very hatable person).

That said, I don't know what we need to inject our hatred of him into every single thing that happens.

23. Maybe because he is an Opportunistic phony ? And he picks and chooses which
tragedies he responses too in a timely manner, depending on how much trouble he is in politically? He is indeed hate worthy.

8. As a friend said in an e-mail a few minutes ago.....
"The only thing that horrifies Bush is, Henry Waxman with subpoena power."

Of course he sent a shill out to speak for him. He's probably too drunk to walk out there himself.

15. Out of curiosity, what is a President supposed to do right now?
I can't imagine ever disliking a President more than this one, but I honestly don't know what he should do right now short of ripping off his suit to reveal a Giant W and flying to Blacksburg to do battle with someone.

Monitoring the situation probably means getting updates, offering any federal help that is needed, and preparing the standard "address to comfort the nation" that every president gives when something like this happens.

19. He just spoke
and if memory serves me correctly, when there have been national tragedies during his time in the WH (think Katrina, for one), it seems to take him a long time before speaking out, making a statement, or otherwise putting in a public appearance to address it. And, he has been chastised, even by the press, for not showing leadership, making himself available to the public.

...and re: * just speaking.... Kind of slurry in speech, but that could just be me...or maybe he doesn't read very well without his "reader" glasses...

18. IT actually the appropriate response.
He is probably watching CNN

He needs to seem attached,, but if he starts making phone calls and looking like he is involved it winds up looking like he is pandering to the crisis and getting involved in what is juridictionally a state matter.

I don't want him anywhere near this tragedy.....but I do not want him to ignore it either.

22. I'll tell you how the *ies will handle it...
They'll monitor it like when Frenchy LePew (Wayne LaPierre) from the NRA was going to monitor Blackwater grabbing guns from poor, black New Orleanians after Katrina swept thru - not a ____ing peep.
