BREAKING: Gonzales testimony postponed.AP reports:

The Senate Judiciary Committee postponed Tuesday’s questioning of Attorney General Alberto Gonzales on the firings of eight federal prosecutors, saying the proceedings would be inappropriate in light of the Virginia Tech shootings.

Committee Chairman Patrick Leahy made the decision Monday to postpone the long-awaited hearing that has been considered Gonzales’ last chance to quiet a controversy that has prompted calls in both parties for his resignation.

Leahy said the hearing had been rescheduled for Thursday. He said he made the decision after conferring with Gonzales and the committee’s senior Republican, Sen. Arlen Specter of Pennsylvania. ”All three of us agree,” he said.

”I’m sure that he will want to be dealing with the matters of the shooting,” Leahy said of Gonzales.

10. Because, as Beet says below, it's the only appropriate decision.

It demonstrates sensitivity to the victims and respect for the office of the AG. And it secondarily allows the media to get past the inevitable "blood circus" so they can focus better on the Gonzo hearings.

NGU.

2. I'm glad about this
I've got jury duty Tuesday and would prefer to watch Gonzo fall to pieces live than in re-run!

4. The Only Appropriate Decision
The Repubs will claim politics, but if they didn't delay they would also feign outrage and claim politics. So they're response is irrelevant.

From a legitimate, ethical standpoint this is the only appropriate response to the VT shootings. This DOES deserve immediate, focused attention by DOJ, regardless of how offensively incompetent it's head is.

7. Yes, and at the same tiime it gives MSM a chance to move on
there is little reason to believe mosty people would even care about Gonzo after this.

It is a tragedy, to be sure, and it needs to be dealt with as well...:(

Which is a bigger problem?

Do Democrats really want to do anything, or are they only concerned with sound-bites and political correctness?

9. Sound bites - get real! A good sound bite will get you re-elected Shit Reagan did it for
Edited on Mon Apr-16-07 06:30 PM by GreenTea
eights years, did absolutely nothing (besides break unions, deregulate corporations & talk tough) nothing to show for eight years but republican corporate stealing. Reagan was the master of the do nothing, put out a sound bite and when he went senile in his second term, they never let him near the press without someone with him... Bush has survived stealing, wars and bankrupting our nation with nothing more than sound bites...people eat it up and never question it.

15. True, unfortunately
We can always hope the Dems, unlike the Republi-thugs,
will go beyond sound-bites and actually do something.

12. What this is about is that Gonzo tried to "Obstruct Justice" once again with Weekend Dump of
his WaPo MeaCulpa Editorial and then "pre-releasing" his "Opening Statement" to to Muddy the waters further.

And..then you had the testimony that Dems took over the weekend that refute everything that Gonzo has said in "former" testimony and new Email Revelations that the Media discounted but that Senate and House Staffers have combed over and found some nuggets in.

Senator Shumers's new revelations announced in a RARE Sunday Dem Press Conference asked even more questions that Gonzo needs to be PREPARED TO ANSWER.

I'm thinking our Dems are giving GONZO more time so they get ANSWERS to all the questions he's been given and that when he LIES HIS ASS OFF AGAIN...they will tell him: "BUT...WE GAVE YOU TWO EXTRA DAYS...TO ANSER OUR QUESTIONS...and you are STILL CLUELESS?"

It's a Great Move...Strategically.
