500,000 to boycott Pepsi over its ‘homosexual advocacy’
Edited on Wed Oct-07-09 05:54 AM by democracy1st
A group that advocates "traditional family values" claims it has the signatures of 500,000 people who have pledged to boycott Pepsi over what it says are the company's activities promoting gay rights.

The American Family Association, which boasts "2.5 million online supporters," "asked PepsiCo to be neutral in the culture war and not support the homosexual agenda," it said in a press release Tuesday. "PepsiCo refused. The company continues to give financial support to homosexual organizations."

The AFA launched its boycott campaign in January over PepsiCo's "continued support of same-sex marriage and homosexual advocacy." The group said it had received a "condescending letter" from Pepsi that "refused to address Pepsi's support of the homosexual agenda."

In particular, the AFA decried PepsiCo's donations to groups that funded the effort against California's Proposition 8 last year. The AFA said PepsiCo gave $500,000 to the Human Rights Campaign, which had worked to defeat Proposition 8.

11. News is not new at DU unless it gets posted numerous times when it happens.
Although adding to the original threads would have brought them to near the top of their forums. In reality, very few here ever check for duplicates even though it is asked when you start a new thread.

4. Well it might be something of a brake on health care cost increases . . .
If 500,000 pre-diabetics of the AFA cut back their consumption of sugar water.

5. I'm Still Boycotting Pepsi From The 70's...
When they hired Nixon to their board of directors. Haven't touched the stuff since and even avoided other Pepsico ventures. But if they're stand on equal rights is such a burr in the right wing's ass, I may have to revisit that policy.

7. You can't be 'neutral in the culture wars'
First of all, because the war is a one-sided one. You side with the people who do no harm, and the aggressive side will label you 'enemy'.

That being said, by not including gay people, PepsiCo would have sided with the aggressive side, since it is that side's aim to obfuscate and deny the existence and admissibility of homosexuality.

10. "Don't fuck with me fellas. This ain't my first time at the rodeo."
to quote Joan Crawford (or so it's said). While she made that statement to Pepsi's board maybe they should dust it off and use it as their response to those knuckle draggers.

12. Assuming their numerical claims are correct ...
... (which there is no reason to believe), this means four fifths of their "online supporters" WON'T be boycotting. This should make approximately NO impact on PepsiCo's bottom line.

14. WAAAHHH CONDESCENING LETTER WAAAAHHH
Fuck you off you bigots. It's a condscending letter because most people with more than two brain cells to rub together know that hating an entire group of people because of your own hatred and bigotry doesn't deserve to be treated as anything more than what it is.

Personally, I would have sent a letter that only consisted of the words "BRING IT". You think a few supposed "million" online supporters means squat? I've seen online petitions to keep shitty sci-fi shows on the air that had more support than that. Go back to your bibles and beating your kids you nazi fucks.

And good for Pepsico for not backing down, like other companies have done when these freaks started making noise.
