This week's DainBramaged HEEL OF THE WEEK award goes to....

(drum roll)

GENERAL MOTORS

For putting 13,000 Saturn workers out on waivers, shuttering 250 dealerships because GM made shitty decisions over the past 20 years, and OUTSOURCING the Global Connect dealer help desk to India And Brazil.

GM, you have failed me miserably this time.

4. Every time I call Global Connect now I ask for an American supervisor
and the response is 'sorry, I don't understand' and then the line goes dead. Realizing that they have shed over 1500 AMERICAN jobs there since 2004 by outsourcing them (via IBM)to foreign countries (like Dell did) my respect for current management is in the toilet.

3. Saturn has been a shitty little brand since they realized that customer service cost money.
There's no real need for the Saturn line anyway.

Dealerships were handed out like candy when the economy was good and everybody was buying cars. It makes sense to thin the ranks now.

...and everybody outsources help desks now.

General Motors is responsible to do exactly two things...obey the law and make a profit for its shareholders. All of these decisions met both criteria. The culprit isn't GM, it's our elected representatives who refuse to enact legislation that makes it financially advantageous to create jobs in the U.S. and keep them here.

5. And even though this can be put at the feet of the elected representatives,
in whom we have not been pleased quite regularly, incumbents will be reelected at a rate greater than 90%.

Maybe we just don't deserve any better, because we certainly keep going with "the name you know" at the ballot box.

7. "We get the government we deserve"
As long as people care more about whether or not Jessica Simpson is getting fat than they do about the decisions their elected representatives are making, thay (and, unfortunately, "we") get exactly what we deserve.

10. I bought a '00 Saturn in early '95, and it runs like a dream.
It gets great mileage, and never has problems, with minimal maintenance. It's the only decent American car I've ever had.

Still, I hear the brand went to heck in the past few years.

And what is even more bizzaro world, I, a loyal employee, who sticks up for GM here, when I smack them (deservedly) the thread gets unrecd. DU has become a kindergarten of the stoopid.

9. I am surprised that more of the GM haters didn't respond to this thread
positively, how puzzling. I call out GM for stupid decisions, and no bubbling up of anger by the pro-import crowd? Oh well. I can go to bed KNOWING DU has become pro-GM and loves the UAW for the great union they are.
