Move prompted by homeless man's 'protest site'

The Naperville City Council on Tuesday night voted 6-1 to pass a new law banning sleeping, camping and storing personal property on streets and sidewalks in the city's downtown in a move prompted by complaints about an outspoken homeless man's well-known encampment on a downtown sidewalk.

The ordinance will allow the city to eject Scott Huber from his downtown "protest site," as he calls it.

As he has before, Huber on Tuesday pledged to sue the city in federal court if he is ticketed for his protest site.
