Justice returns to city: Sotomayor is star at 30th reunion
NEW HAVEN — Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor said Saturday her grueling nomination process was a tightly-scripted event, right down to the dress picked out for her.

Sotomayor’s comments were made privately at Yale University Saturday during her 30th Yale Law School reunion. People who listened to her speech said she revealed many details of the nomination process to the nation’s highest court.

Sotomayor, a 1979 Yale Law School graduate and the first Hispanic on the Supreme Court, spent Saturday at the campus for Yale Law School’s alumni weekend, attending a luncheon, coffee reception and 30th reunion dinner of about 50 guests.

She also made a presentation in Woolsey Hall with a law professor before 1,800 alumni, students and faculty, in an exclusive event that Yale billed as a conversation between Sotomayor and Professor Kate Stith, the school’s Lafayette S. Foster Professor of Law.

“She gave the most astounding account of how the president selected her,” State Sen. Ed Meyer, D-Guilford, said after attending the event.
