7. I have to drive quite a ways to the library..
Edited on Sun Oct-18-09 01:28 PM by Fumesucker
Their catalog is not online and they really don't have much in the genre I prefer to read for entertainment so it's a real crapshoot as to whether I'm going to find something I want to read.

Edited for speling.

14. Um, FAIL. I use PBS.com a LOT, and have for 3 or 4 years,
in part because I want to KEEP certain of the books I acquire. I have obtained some nice hardback cookbooks, and some fiction trilogies, and other misc books that I want on my permanent bookshelf. I also glean cheap paperbacks from the thrift shop and garage sales for swapping purposes.

The library serves its purpose, but it has its limitations. I do know they would be most unhappy if I kept any of THEIR cookbooks, lol.

You need to get out of your house a bit more.

6. Actually I do.. but my local library is small and doesn't have all that much I'm interested in..
I mostly read SF for entertainment and they don't have much at all, this gives me access to over four million books, way more than my library has.

I also know where to find books online for download but I feel that's unethical so I don't do it.

13. Interlibrary loan is a wonderful thing.
There may be a small fee to cover mailing costs. My library doesn't have much I'm interested in reading either, but they've never failed to locate any book that I've requested, and they usually have it within a week.

I like this idea too. I had no idea this existed. Thanks!

5. But...but...but....
that's going to KILL the indie bookstores!

:sarcasm:

This is actually a great idea, and a wonderful way to propagate the pleasures of reading.

8. Thanks for this.
My library, like yours, has a very limited selection -- it's been in a little trailer ever since Katrina. I'm on a fixed income right now, so I can't always buy any book I want. Books are getting expensive these days! Again, thanks for the link; I'm sure I'll be using it.

16. Love to read but can't find any books you like in bookstores?
Publishers decide which authors they will publish based on the SALES of their last book. Not enough sales, the author can't get published. Ever wonder what happened to the third book in a trilogy that you loved? Far too often the first two didn't sell well enough to publish the third.

I'm not saying don't swap, or go to libraries for some, maybe even most of your reading pleasures. I'm saying you've got to BUY some too, if you want to have stuff to read in the future.

Besides, those swap clubs will never get a GOOD book out of me, because I keep 'em and re-read 'em. It's the only way I can keep my inner bibliovore fed.

19. Hey, I listed some books on this site a few hours ago
and I've already had a request! This place is hopping!

I also found listed half a dozen hard to find, out of print books I'd like to get.

Thanks for bringing it to my attention!
