Are media conservatives making up numbers to inflate the power of their movement?

November 06, 2009 12:02 am ET by Jeremy Holden

Another right-wing protest heavily promoted by Fox News and other right-wing personalities, another round of hyperbolic crowd overestimates by the very people who had aggressively begged their viewers and listeners to attend.

Baseless estimates from the cheering section include:

* Stephen Moore, who claimed that 50,000 attended;
* Franklin Raff, producer for G. Gordon Liddy, who claimed "about a million" attended;
* And Sean Hannity, who claimed that 20,000 attended before claiming that 5,000 attended (and later returning to the more robust 20,000).

While falling all over themselves to make up a number that would befit earlier forecasts of a "massive" crowd, have these media figures tripped over the facts? Well, it turns out that U.S. Capitol Police officers reportedly estimated to MSNBC that about 4,000 protesters showed up to yell about health care reform.

Made up numbers? Makes you wonder if the event's promoters are embarrassed by the turnout.

3. What do you expect from liars?
Republicans are liars. They will lie about anything to further their cause. They have been doing it for many years. Even dogs can tell when someone is a republican! My republican neighbor came over the other day and reached out to pet my dog. My dog licked his hand, and then he had to lick his ass to get the taste out of his mouth!

4. They've done that since forever.
Take the conservative fundamentalist movement in the gop for example. Story after story in the media talks about 70 million evangelical Christians in this county when discussing the gop fundies. This magical 70 million number implies there are that many conservative fundamentalists within that movement.
In reality however the term Evangelical Christian refers to mainstream Protestant churches who take their belief system from the Holy Gospels.

6. I saw a little of that ugly shit on KO last night
I was too tired to stay awake to watch it, I was also sickened that they used the pic from the Dachau, I had neighbors in my condo building in Miami that had survived Auschwitz, and a great Uncle who survived Buchenwald (he was only 5 when his family was shot down in their home) he was there as a child all by himself, and came to the US and married my great aunt in the 50s.

These Evilgelicals are stirring up hate, either they are to stupid or arrogant to realize what they do, or if not, too cynical to think they may face back lash of a most violent kind.

I am still shaking in anger with these people most especially with M Bachmann and V Foxx(who is the rep from the next district over from where I live. I wonder how the folks of 'Mayberry' *Mt Airy where Andy Griffith is from feel about her? I haven't been over there and at this point I won't be. Frankly I think we should organize boycotts of products or tourism to that town and the home towns of all of these konservatives.

8. The liars can't get the numbers they want
because the Government isn't providing the loonies with the proper facilities (porta potties) when they need them. They do expect Government help in case of emergencies like emergency medical treatment, and they wouldn't expect the Government to provide that, right. Some have to stay home. Maybe some are able to see through the lies now. Ya think? I wonder how many attended because they live in DC and had nothing better to do?
