Poll: Do you Support the War in Afghanistan?
would like to do a quick 'show of hands' (or maybe someone can do a proper poll) to gauge where my DU friends are at right now.

simple yes/no in the title is enough but feel free to elaborate if you care to.

:hi:

put me down as, HELL no.

And, to further clarify, war means when one principality or another actually waves a white flag of surrender.

Got to have two parties or more such that one of them can say, "We quit."

11. The question is too simple
Did I support the war after the attack in 2001?

During the 7 years the Bush administration ignored Afghanistan like a red-headed child?

Do I support Obama's troop escalation?

Do I support his time line?

I can give you answers to all those questions and more but in none of them will you find a simple "yes" or "no".

13. No
Because I am absolutely certain that that absolute mess cannot and will never be 'cleaned' by anyone.

And no amount of insults against pacifists on DU will change that. (I never thought I'd type that here.)

I'll hate to post told-you-so replies in June 2011 here but there's nothing I can do to prevent the upcoming un-necessary casualties.

What a waste. Bring the boys 'n girls back home. And I mean it.

I think we should have gone in there in 2001. This is different than Iraq.

An unfortunate circumstance born of bush, to be managed for better or worse by Obama.

23. So, have you given any thought to actually getting personally involved? Or will
you just let someone else put their ass on the line?

Because there really is a need for experienced architects on the ground in Afghanistan. 50 is young. They have people in their 60s doing duty in these wars.

You could be so much more than just a cheer leader.

What do you think? Are you ready to do some community service? Some public service? Or is this just a rerun of the young Republicans except on the other side of the aisle?

15. I supported it as originally conceived, but not now.
The first year was a great success. Why? Because we only had a few hundred guys helping rival tribes fight the Taliban. Well, that and the air power that they directed.

And what happened? It was a great success. The Taliban was toppled.

We should have then left. Now we have become and occupying power, and we will fail there like all previous occupying powers.

I'd have to think that the average Afghan most look at all the troops of different nations running around and think "WTF are these people doing here, anyway"?

in reality. Obama always gives good speeches. This one showed a deep understanding of the situation in Afghanistan, clear goals and a timetable for withdrawal. We shall see . . . . .
