6. That's the message I'm taking away from that thread.
We've had pro-war provacateurs here since inception, and we have a "surge" of them now.

5. I always supported action in Afghainstan. Iraq? Not so much.
The current mission in Afghanistan should have been the first one. The "strategery" and tactics were wrong, but the cause was always just.

9. Me too...
They could have done what the Soviets couldn't, go in overwhelmingly with strategic strikes and take out Bin Laden and then get out...

We would have been far better off and the we would have over a trillion dollars to explore clean energy, build much needed infrastructure repair and construction and wouldn't have a government and people full of blood lust...

We had to do something to act against Bin Laden but mounting a half assed invasion, which is what it was, and instead focus everything against Iraq, will probably go down as one of the worst military mistakes in American History. That invasion was so ill advised that it could actually lead to the collapse of the US as we know it. I don't think there would have been such rancor in our national political debates if we never invaded Iraq. And, Bush would have most surely been a one term president.

10. The ADVERTIZED cause, you mean.
The "PR" cause.

Which has little to do with any reality.

13. Nothing to do with nothing.
Do you REALLY believe we went there to oust the Taliban?

Saddam Husseign hanged: good thing or bad thing?

ANSWER: I don't give a fuck. While the neocons posture and count their profits, people are getting maimed and killed.

16. As they were under the Taliban - and yes we did go there to do that
It was done effectively and well quite early in the process. the trick is building up a native force that can keep them out.

17. The Neocons claimed their objective was ousting the Taliban.
but they only cared about an excuse to invade Iraq. I don't believe for a second that you're too stupid to realize that, so you're an apologist for imperialism.

I won't waste further time on a tool. Hope I next read your nick on a tombstone.

19. President Obama plans on putting the Taliban back into power according to his Afghanistan speech.
"We will support efforts by the Afghan government to open the door to those Taliban who abandon violence and respect the human rights of their fellow citizens."

And however I may disagree with some of his appointments and decisions I trust his judgement a hellava lot more the Prince Bunnypants. I don't see how a thread from 2003 can be compared to the situation now.

Proof that some of us have always been "radical extremists" here. :D

Btw, how did you manage to dig that up? I hardly ever have any luck getting into the older DU archives. I'd love to know how you did it.

Thanks again,
sw

Same arguments as today, really.
