Man with Guns in Standoff with Police at a Walmart in Augusta, ME

I just heard it on the local news. I'll do a search and see if there's any info online and post a link if there is one.

Edited to add: couldn't find anything online, but it's going on right now so it probably hasn't become written news yet.

Gunman at Wal-Mart prompts evacuation

By Central Maine Newspapers
April 20, 2007 10:32 PM

AUGUSTA — An unidentified gunman walked into the Augusta Wal-Mart Friday night and ordered all employees and customers out of the building.

Shortly before 10 p.m., officers with Maine State Police, Augusta Police Department and the Kennebec County Sheriff’s Office had the entire Wal-Mart complex locked down and had evacuated most of the cars from the store’s expansive parking lot. Police weren’t available for comment, but cruisers were lined up in front of the building shortly after 8:30 p.m. when the incident was reported to Augusta police.

7. Of course. But interestingly, they stopped selliing them in some Maine stores

They said it was due to demand: they weren't selling enough. Just found an intersting article on it. The NRA is ok with it if it's a business decision, as opposed to a politcal decision, but they'll still keep an eye on the situation.

5. Just found this--the man was taken into custody
It said no shots were fired and the situation is contained. I'd be curious to know more about this. I hope they elaborate later.

won't fill this prescription? Isn't this a Pharmacy???"

Makes ya wonder what set him off.... Since he is in custody and all is okay, I figured I could poke fun....

What do y'all think might have set him off?

9. I'm curious about that myself.
I'm the kind of person who always wants to know a person's motives.

10. And how much do we pay cops? Many laugh when they're outgunned
by gun owners with assault rifles. Even on this website cops are often treated like the enemy.
