Old Farts, unite!
Edited on Wed Dec-09-09 10:30 AM by blindpig
If, as seems to be the case, the proposal of Medicare for those of us 55/64 is the deal, what you gonna do?

Are you gonna be bought off or do you stand in solidarity with the rest who are getting screwed?

To hell with this blatant pandering, solidarity!

7. I agree - I am waiting for details
This could be the opening we have been waiting for to eventually (in the next couple years) expand medicare availability to all.
Plus, if there is access to the federal HC plan (subsidized for the poor) I think this could be a real win.
Ergo, give me details.

2. They're tempting us with a carrot before they beat us with a stick
That's the only way I can interpret this "deal."

3. This year , Medicare starts at 55
In 2011, we for 50 and cover everyone under 25.

In 2013, everyone under 30 and over 40.

By 2015, everyone.

5. you do realize that there is going to be a hefty monthly premium for those under 65, right?
some reports peg it as high as $865/month. and that would be for 80% coverage.

4. for most, it probably depends on the buy-in cost....
$865/month for 80% coverage seems a bit steep to me.

here but I countered it with my 1. Good, affordable health care is a UNIVERSAL need. It's an attempt to throw a bone to the Boomers thinking we're stupid enough to fall for it. We're not.

10. I could support this IF...
It includes a "trigger" to lower the age of eligibility each year that the insurance industry does not meet REAL hard, benchmarks of cost, and coverage. THIS would be a real "foot in the door"

but most times I try to get away from them and let someone else smell them up.

Thats not what you're talking about??? damn I shoulda' known that

Lowering medicare to 55 would be a good deal I think. I'm VA so I have no experience with medicare so pay no attention to me but count me in as being on your side.

Keep in mind that the youth will be taking care of us in our old age.

17. This OF says NO! Solidarity.
This "reform" is an atrocity. It's too little and too screwed up. And with mandates? Forget it!

And buying in to Medicare will probably lead to charging those who are already in it too. Instead of creeping single payer, it'll be creeping privatization.

Hell no!

have that plan opened to everyone. It's pretty good. the OPM manages it well, not letting the insurance companies abuse us.

20. Sounds good - something that is already established.
I would be for opening medicare for everyone as well, but either would do. Enough bailouts for the pharmaceutical companies & health care corporations (which they clearly don't need as evidenced by their placement on the Fortune 500 list). Time for a bail-out for the rest of us.

35. I am between 55 and 60...
I believe we all need a plan like medicare which would provide (hopefully) affordable health care.
No mandated private insurance with the blood sucking pvt insurance carriers.
Also, we need to have regulation on the pharmaceutical companies so we are no longer subsidizing the cost for the countries that DO regulate them.

It is the republicans that are of the belief "I've got mine, you are on your own".
