September 4, 2009: "Nancy Pelosi: No public option, no bill"
Edited on Thu Dec-10-09 01:58 PM by closeupready
>>As the White House signals that it is willing to move forward on a health reform plan without a public option, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) sent a strong message Thursday evening: not so fast.

In her strongest statement yet, Pelosi said that any bill "without a strong public option will not pass the House":

“Any real change requires the inclusion of a strong public option to promote competition and bring down costs,” Pelosi said. “If a vigorous public option is not included, it would be a major victory for the health insurance industry.”<<

10. Y'all are misreading the OP. Pelosi's quote is from Sept. She's doing a 180 today.
Revolt time.

6. Finally.
Now if she just sticks by that, maybe we can make some actual progress for the People instead of Congressional paymasters.

9. This is a misleading post - this article is from September...
I'll wait and see what the Speaker says about the situation as it is today -- not speculate based on previous positions.

11. PLEASE NOTE: This is an old story from September 4!!! I am trying to highlight
how fast things change. Today, she's backed off.

Stories like this from just literally three months ago serve to illustrate the hazards of - well, speaking on the record. She can't back away from her comments. If she does, she risks looking likea complete sellout. Which wouldn't surprise me for a number of reasons.

23. I think that was the OP's point
And the progressives are singin' the blues...

Listen to me, dog, before you start to whine
That side's yours and this side's mine
Move it on over
Rock it on over
Move over little dog, a big ol' dog is movin' in

24. I didn't think she'd stick to her promise and she hasn't
During the Bush years there were occasional quotes from life-long republicans saying, "I didn't leave my party, it left me."

That's exactly where we're at today.

The Democratic Party we all want to support no longer exists.
