'I didn't want the homeless to be cold'

TAMPA - Most children April Chapman's age likely spent their Christmas morning at home opening presents. April, who is 6 years old, spent her morning at Tampa's Salvation Army with an armful of blankets and a simple message.

"I didn't want the homeless people to be cold," she explained.

April walked up and down Florida Avenue, giving a blanket to anyone who was standing or sitting along the road near the Salvation Army.

"It really touched my heart," said Harold Marr, who is staying at the Salvation Army's transitional living facility. "It was a blessing she is such an angel."

So where did a 6-year-old come up with the idea to distribute blankets on Christmas Day?

"My teacher was talking about it and then I thought of it," April said. Her mother, Bridget Hill got the job of turning the idea into reality.

Yeah, I know...apologies for the Fox link but I can't find another link to this local (to me) story. I thought that with all the ugliness out there today, this story deserved a bigger audience.
