"The Young Turks"
Does that rub anybody else the wrong way?

I'm not trying to make a mountain out of a mole hill, but sheesh. I've been reading up a lot about the Armenian Genocide, and I find the title of Cenk's show kind of tacky. (FYI the Young Turks were the impetuous for the government that ethnically cleansed the Armenians from Turkey during WW1.)

I'm just conflicted. Every time I hear it, I cringe...

BTW...I love what Cenk has to say, and am in no way equating him to a vile person. I'm just surprised this has slipped under so many's radar.

xoxo M

1. The term has become generic over the years
It generally refers to an infusion of 'young blood' opposing the 'old order', especially in the political arena. Cenk is also Turkish so I think it's a play on words as well

2. It sort of leaves me wondering what contemporary terms will be genericized like that
Fast forward a hundred years or so, I imagine there'd be some turns of phrase taken utterly for granted as inoffensive that would go over now about as well as Auschwitz jokes would in 1946.

This article is about the Turkish nationalist constitutionalist movement. For other uses, see Young Turks (disambiguation).
The Young Turks (Turkish: Jön Türkler (plural), from French: Jeunes Turcs) were a coalition of various groups favoring reformation of the administration of the Ottoman Empire. The movement was against the monarchy of Ottoman Sultan and favored a re-installation of the shortlived Kanûn-ı Esâsî constitution. They established the second constitutional era in 1908 with what would become known as the Young Turk Revolution. The term Young Turks referred to the members of the Ottoman society who were progressive, modernist and opposed to the status quo. The movement built a rich tradition of dissent that shaped the intellectual, political and artistic life of the late Ottoman period generally transcendent the decline and dissolution periods. Many Young Turks were not only active in the political arena, but were also artists, administrators, scientists, etc. The term "Young Turks" has subsequently come to signify any groups or individuals inside an organization who are progressive and seek prominence and power.<1>

6. That was interesting but.
What does this mean.
"At the center of the Young turks were the committee of Union and progress"
That seems to say that not all Young Turks were nationalist.

5. One of the co-hosts of the show is of Armenian descent...

...and they've actually talked about the issue of the genocide (on multiple occasions) and how it remains an issue of dispute and concern to this day, so I don't see the issue.
