Main Repuke talking point: "The troops want to keep fighting, so we should...

keep fighting."

Even if the premise were true (and it's obviously not), the conclusion is a travesty. Since when did we hand over foreign policy decisions to "the troops"?

1. And while they're at it, let them be joined by some fresh, young, repuke
cannon fodder.

6. Do we have a list of every major Republican with an 18-year-old child?
Just wondering.

7. You know, I've asked that before myself. If not, we sure do need one.
Let's start with Barbara, Jenna, and Pierce bush**

2. Sure they do
After two ... three ... four tours of duty, they're looking forward to even more combat. They don't EVER want to come home! :eyes: :grr:

3. The troops think Saddam Hussein attacked us on 9/11, so he did.

4. It is so tragically opportunistic ...
Soldiers inherently and by training are WARRIORS ... They are built to fight and become a part of an organization whose very existence is based on battle ... Our soldiers are the very best in the world because they are the bravest, most dedicated and well trained soldiers the planet has ever seen ...

They know no retreat ...

And, let me extend this to their families ... Some are different, but most military families have the same inherent characteristics, and/or will support their sons/daughters by supporting the cause ...

Fact is, our troops would fight ANY battle to the bloody end ... I mean to the last man or woman ...

THAT is why the decision IS NOT THEIRS ... They would drive themselves into extinction if that was where it led ...

The USE of our troops has to be based on the good sense and responsibility of CIVILIAN LEADERS, and again, the TROOPS understand this going in ...

I cannot at this time, and I have thought about this a great deal, but I cannot even find the words to accurately describe how callous, how disgusting, how pathetic it is, to use the valour of a troops as a means of justifying sending them into a situation that they do not belong, and as a result so often harm or even kill them ...

8. Lies. All Lies. Did the troops ask to have their tours extended and extended

and extended? Did they ask to be given insufficient armor + protection?

Did they ask Prezdent Monkeynuts to put them in harms way?

It seems that the GOPigs have lost more than the mid terms. They've also apparently lost what was
left of their tiny, dried up little minds.

10. Yes, because they realize longer tours
are better for them, that's what the Pentagon says and all career officers will echo this line, until their men agree or have received enough "morale boosting" extra duty and learn to agree.

Despite what the troops themselves say:

Or that tired old notion of 1 year abroad, 2 years at home.

Support the Troops. It is awesome how the Bush Regime can make that statement while their actions prove to be the exact opposite.

9. perfect example as to why there needs to be a "wise leader"- one
who isn't as apt to fall victim to the heat of the moment, or to lose sight of the big picture.

They don't have the luxury of being able to see from a perspective that isn't in the thick of the action- the ability to evaluate the situation more "objectively" (ideally) than the average soldier possibly could.

For the same reason a Fire Chief orders "everyone out" of a building that is collapsing- even if the Firefighters are ready willing and eager to continue trying to salvage it- No one likes to face falling short of what the initial goal was, but in reality, that happens more often than people realize.

I don't believe "what the troops want" has ever factored into wars- The Troops aren't trained to think and act as individuals when it comes to warfare- they are told to obey orders.

Those who use the talking point :but "our troops want to stay" don't condone the counterclaim that "out troops want to leave"- (which is the more accurate call).
