To compensate for regular budget deficits the right might actually contemplate shrinking the military budget.

It is funny that they don't see the huge military expenditures as the burden it is.

1. SS should not be tied to the budget in any way.

2. There should be NO CAP on Social Security contributions.
Those that insist on making ALL the money should never stop paying into the fund. Social Security funding problem solved. The Pentagon budget needs a massive haircut.

3. First, that cap should not be there at all! And, I'm a person that reaches the cap and I think it's
not fair at all. Never have since the first time my paycheck increased unexpectedly during the year. I knew then that it was a gift to the rich.

4. Yes it is a gift. The right needs an incentive to cut military spending though
Or they will never stop demanding more

5. No incentive necessary. We need Democrats that are Democrats for President and Congress

6. SS runs a huge surplus that congress happily spends and then
proceeds to issue dire warnings about the bad things that will happen when they have to actually start paying back all those T bills they theoretically sold while spending our pensions. Consequently I am against increasing SS revenue in any manner. If the cap bothers you, eliminating it must also come with a compensating DECREASE in ss tax rates to make that change revenue neutral. Otherwise they will just continue to pillage us with taxes for a pension system that they apparently have no intention of making good on when the revenue flow goes negative.

7. SS tax rates are fine. You include another problem into your scenario ... bad representation.
If you have bad representation there is nothing that will happen. Not a change in the rates, nor the cap.
Nobody wants the fund changed because of the crooked MFs that are in office (and continually refreshed with new crooked MFs).
