I am a proud combat veteran of the US Army, so it gives me no great pleasure to say this ...
but I believe that in a confrontation between comparably sized Israeli and American forces, our Joint Chiefs of Staff would be thrilled with a draw. Yup, the Israeli Defense Force, despite being infested with "sissies". "fags", "queers", "homos", and "Nancy boys", is one of the most lethal, kick-your-ass-and-fuck-you-up fighting forces in the world. Isn't it about time to wake the fuck up, and allow anyone who wishes to enlist in defense of his or her country to do so? Shit, at this point even a Republican should be able to figure out that it would be in the best interest of our National Security.

2. The Israelis are successful because
they play by the same rules as their enemies.

They also have women as infantry platoon leaders, and various other positions that are for "men only" in the U.S.

17. some of the greatest fighting forces in antiquity were gay: the Sacred
Band of Thebes for instance. There are a lot of people in places of influence who have shaky manhoods.

7. Of course!
They want Obama to "fail" even if it means they die... they are literally that bitter, that twisted, and that WRONG!

9. Of course. All they really care about is trying to discredit and smear Obama and all
Democrats. They are a bunch of bad actors in this thing. Too damn bad if they don't like it...

and decidedly not so in others.

21. I was pleasantly surprised.
Shocked, more accurately. Gays in the military and the Haiti medical team - 2010 is faring much better than 2009 for IDF threads.

6. Do you think it is fair to say that the rank and file troops are not as bent out of shape
on this issue as the old generals and admirals who are running things at the Pentagon?

Just my take, which is certainly not as informed as yours!

11. I think it is also fair to say that the many service men and women treated
by lesbian nurses care not a bit about the love life of the nurse whose skill enabled them to survive even thrive after devastating injury.

13. No, most don't care
And the loudest group of all opposing the end of DADT are the retired general/admiral club. The active-duty guys still understand that if the CINC says "do away with it", they have to salute sharply and do their jobs or they should retire/resign.

12. I worked with a very good 91 Bravo that was gay.
I have another retired Special Forces friend that is gay. I don't think the rank and file give much of a damn. I was always a line medic and I never saw problems even in the combat units.

15. I remember a hot LZ, a litter, a sucking chest wound, and a brass-balled medic.
He could have had a dick in as mouth as he applied a compression bandage to my chest. Trust me, I wouldn't have given a shit.

14. Only an idiot brings a knife to a knife fight..
the whole point is to NOT fight "fair" and show up with "comparably sized" forces. Moreover I really doubt that you are correct given the huge amount of money we put into technology. Israel does R&D to be sure but it just can't compete with the 700 billion dollar Pentagon budget.

This has nothing to do with gay vs. straight though.

My point was the efficiency of the IDF fighters, sexuality be damned.

20. A friend of mine who served
in the Israeli army was shocked that the US has DADT. We were discussing the dozens of gay Arabic translators that were dismissed from Iraq due to this policy. He never had a problem with soldiers who were gay in his unit and thinks it's insane to put homophobia above security.

24. I agree ..
Gay people are just as patriotic and capable of military action as straight people. They should be allowed to serve in the military without having to justify anything to anyone.

The Republicans are the problem. They can't figure anything out. They make my head want to explode.:nuke:

26. Let us not forget that the IDF is fighting for their country IN...
their country. They are protecting their own homes and families.

Where are our guys? Why are they there? Do we have goals?

The IDF either wins or their country goes down. Not the case with us and that makes a big difference.

28. It's hard to work up the same enthusiasm for our pointless wars of corporate conquest...
...as Israelis can for the actual defense of their borders. Whatever terrible deeds their military commits, it is undeniably true that they are actively involved in defending their nation. Troop for troop, I would have to be on the Israeli over an American.
