Fox preemptive strike against Mellencamp: ‘He’s way over there’

The rocker behind Farm Aid is evidently too subversive for the gang at Fox and Friends. Although it's probably safe to assume that the Fox morning hosts don't know much about John Cougar Mellencamp, other than he sang about "Small Towns."

Democrats at Daily Kos and at other blogs have been pushing for the Indiana rocker to run for the Senate seat that the retiring Evan Bayh is relinquishing. One Facebook group, Draft John Mellencamp for Senate!, had almost 700 members at press time.

Wednesday morning, Fox News' Steve Doocy wanted his audience to know that Mellencamp "certainly is liberal."

"Really very liberal, according to one report I read this morning he has come out publicly: 'Hillary Clinton, Barack Obama not liberal enough for me, I want more,'" Doocy continued.

In April of 2008, after Mellencamp agreed to perform at campaign events for Clinton and Obama, his publicist, Bob Merlis, said, "Neither candidate is as liberal as he would prefer, but he's happy to contribute what he can."

Especially since he would piss off FOX and Freaks as well as O'Really and Insanity too.

11. That may be true, and I generally like the guy,
but let's be honest here. He really has no chance whatsoever. And certainly not in Indiana. It's a pipe dream.

4. John McCain is too liberal for these half-wits
I'd like to see what kind of an ad campaign the Republicans could run against the man who organized Farm Aid. Seen "regular person" Sarah Palin open her yapper recently on behalf of families losing their farms?

10. There's going to be a "webblast" tonight at 7 pm on fb for JM. I
have no idea whether that's central or eastern time and I think it's on fb. I'll try and get more details but they only had 200 or so members this time yesterday. No word yet from Mellencamp as far as I know.

12. Then his songs are also liberal, right?
...and those songs resonate with the majority of people.

I think it's time to let people realize that most of them are, in fact, liberal.

I wonder if they get extra incentives in their paychecks every time they roll out a new talking point. Maybe a little package of crackers.

18. I think Mellencamp could win here
I know people here are ass backward but they know name recognition. Most of the morons in this state don't have a clue on the issues. How else could you explain how these ass clowns in this state vote? I'd love to see Mellencamp run and win. It would be great to have a real progressive in that seat and I think you could count on half the uninformed buffoons in this state to vote for him because , hey I've heard of him. I'll vote for him. Most of these people have no clue about issues or they would have stopped voting against their own best interest years ago. All they know is R=Good,D=Bad, or hey I've heard that name before I'm a gonna cast my vote fer them, ya know, ya betcha.

I'll bet if Ted Nugent ever ran for office that fuckwit would volunteer to be his campaign manager.
