You can pretty much imagine the conversation...Thom of course for...the other against. The one thing that got me though was the conservative said that all the cities it would affect are Democratic ones, so he's against it.

It never would occur to me to address a problem like transportation in the east in a political way. I never wonder how many Republicans are stuck in traffic along with me. But that is just another example of how different the two parties are. Remember when the Bush admin doled out Homeland Security money, and places like Montana were considered more important than NYC.

Isn't Toyota closing some plants here in the U.S., and aren't those plants in southern states which vote Republican? Should we care? Not so if we were anything like conservatives

1. Us Vs Them
That's how many cons view it. And if it helps us then it must somehow be bad for them.

That's why Republicans can do speeches about the "Real America"

and why that rumor that Health care reform would exclude republicans had any traction.

Pretty much all cities/urban areas are Democratic aren't they.

You know ...

It use to be that we in this country could look ahead and build for the future. Now all we look at is the bottom line and the longer we look at it the worse it gets.

Once upon a time we could look abroad at what other countries were doing and say we can do that and we'll do it better. Now everything foreign is mindlessly ridiculed and dismissed by the ignorant yahoos of the right.
