Latin America and Caribbean leader support Argentina's claim to the Falkland Islands.
The interesting item in this story is the creation of a new organization to represent the area that excludes participation of the US and Canada.

Argentina rallies regional support over Falklands

Leaders at the summit, between the Rio Group and the Caribbean Community (Caricom), are also said to have discussed plans for a new pan-American alliance which would exclude Canada and the United States.

The new grouping would serve as an alternative to the Organisation of American States (OAS), the main forum for regional affairs in the past 50 years.

"It's time to realise the unity of Latin America and the Caribbean," said Mr Calderon, asking the attending leaders and foreign ministers to put aside their political differences.

6. The Monroe Doctrine = outdated US imperialistic policy
I agree that the British should relinquish the Falklands, but the Monroe Doctrine was designed so that the United States could have this hemisphere to itself.

12. why should the brits give up the falklands, the people who live there see themselves as brits
do you also believe that the US should give up california, and texas etc or alaska, or that every nation on the planet should give up territory regardless of what the locals think...

5. So far, Argentina is not talking about invading. But they have started
drilling and Argentina claims a vast section of the ocean from Antarctica to the waters surrounding the Falklands. They have tried to make life difficult for the residents by stopping fishing boats and cargo ships. They also refuse flights the air space.

8. Typical pattern. Whenever the country is going to caca in a canasta,
the Argentine rulers pick a fight with the British.

11. Off of Argentina? I'll say the Falklands
are off of Argentina- like 300 miles off. This isn't exactly Nantucket here. The Falklands were uninhabited when England "discovered them". The inhabitants do not wish to be part of Argentina. They're self-governing. What happens to them should be up to them.

15. You would think Argentina would have learned their lesson by now..
The UK isn't going to give them the Falklands and the people of the Falklands want no part of Argentina.
