28. I just did. I will UnRec any thread where somebody has to complain about it.
Not that it makes any difference. I love the threads where somebody has to cry about UnRec and then the OP goes on to the home page with over 100 Recs.

I must congratulate you for using the 2nd response to the thread to complain about an UnRec. Some often those who think the OP is so important use the very first response to do that.

15. I always default to the math...
8 years of Bush-Cheney + 1 year of Obama = "one year is not enough."

Also, as I've said before, Obama is our President, but American Politics represents a MACHINE, and he is ONE MAN working INSIDE of that machine. He may be the most powerful man INSIDE that machine, but...we will NEVER have a President who can turn the machine OFF. Also, he never claimed to BE the guy who could DO that, so maybe people need to re-evaluate the expectations they had when voting for him. YES, he ran on a platform of change, but as he has said himself on more than one occasion, lasting change is seldom...if ever...something that happens overnight.

He's gonna make mistakes, he's gonna piss people off, he's gonna "disappoint" people...

...but it could have been this:

he's doin' a hella job after the 8 years of sliding into the abyss with bush/cheney/rove.

And, the Obama supporters are able to see that..they don't expect miracles.

29. And I don' t think it's blind faith, as some have said...
I fully believe he's doing all the right things within the sometimes ridiculous parameters he has to deal with. I'm disappointed that there's not more celebration of his historic election, more visble acknowledgement of the inspiration that is, First Lady Michelle Obama in the White House, but mainly, the highly impressive list of Barack Obama's accomplishments during his first year, many of which are never even mentioned by the MSM.

34. Were loyal Bushies "good Republicans"?
Edited on Tue Feb-23-10 05:32 PM by Marr
You know-- the ones who casually set aside their stated ideals everytime the Bush Administration didn't match up with them? People who rant about big government while supporting unrestricted government surveillance and even torture, for instance...? I don't think they were good Republicans, I think they were fans-- and major league suckers.

I think people who support Obama are supporting a personality, not actions. I don't see much in his actions for a progressive to support.

And I promise not to cry about it. People often have different opinions on discussion boards.

I would say that supporting a politician is not the same as supporting an agenda. In fact, it's almost the opposite. If your support is guaranteed, they have absolutely no reason to care about what you want.

44. I think that supporting a president is more complicated than that
Certainly the president has an effect on policy which does or doesn't deserve support, depending on your pov or situation. But it makes sense (to me) to want to preserve our party in power in the WH to prevent a much worse prospect of a republican administration. I've already seen just how bad it can get and I'm satisfied that this president represents enough of a positive change from what I'd expect in a republican administration that I'm quite willing to defend and support him where I think he's correct and effective. I don't think a mid-term challenge is a smart thing, either. It would weaken the perception of our party and would only serve to unify the republicans in our assistance in their opposition (I believe). If we want our agenda to have any chance of advancing into action or law, we need to have the elevation of the higher office to make it happen. That's no guarantee, but we won't realize any of our agenda without the elevating vehicle our coalition of Democrats provides.

38. Well the President said he needed our help......
I heard him, so I'm helping.
I'm not sure how I can figure I will get what I see for this country,
if I don't have my sleeves rolled up and working hard to do my part.
I don't think being part of a big negative pile-on will achieve any of my goals,
that's for sure.
