Obama praises Republican lawmakers for jobs bill support calling it a step toward bipartisanship

- The 20 billion for highways is simply a short-term reauthorization of spending from the highway trust fund that would be passed anyway without describing it as some kind of new and unique "jobs creation" bill. The 18 billion in business tax breaks won't create very many jobs at all. Employers won't hire more workers they don't need simply for a small tax break that would only cover a small proportion of new payroll expenses. BBI-

Obama praises GOP lawmakers for jobs bill support
Obama says GOP lawmakers' support for jobs bill sent to him Wednesday a step toward bipartisanship

President Barack Obama is thanking lawmakers — and Republicans especially — for their help sending him a jobs bill.

The Senate passed the bill on Wednesday with 11 Republican votes. It contains about $18 billion in tax breaks and a $20 billion infusion of cash into highway and transit programs.

Obama told reporters that the bill marks the beginning of Congress' efforts to put the unemployed back to work.

Obama spoke in the Oval Office on Wednesday after a meeting with Irish Prime Minister Brian Cowen. He said he looked forward to bipartisan support on other measures in Congress.

The White House

Office of the Press Secretary

For Immediate Release March 17, 2010
Remarks by President Obama and the Taoiseach of Ireland Brian Cowen
Oval Office

I just want to thank Congress for passing this morning the HIRE Act. It is the first of what I hope will be a series of jobs packages that help to continue to put people back to work all across America.

This bill will provide tax cuts to small businesses that are willing to begin hiring right now, putting people back to work. It’s also going to provide significant tax breaks to businesses for investing in their business, and so, hopefully, at a time when we're starting to see an upswing in the economic growth, that will help sustain it. And the bill also will continue to improve our ability to finance infrastructure projects all across the country.

I also want to say to the Republicans who voted for this bill that I appreciate their willingness to work with Democrats in a bipartisan fashion to get America moving again. And as I said, I hope that on a series of future steps that we take to help small businesses get financing, to help improve our infrastructure around the country, to put people back to work, that we're going to see more progress on that front.

10. I wish I could argue with people that only the right wingers were tearing apart our nation
that liberals, being morally superior, supported uniting the nation and working together. Sadly that is one arrow missing from my debate quiver.

5. They will only vote against meaningful jobs creation legislation.

You know .... like big public works jobs.

Of course, big and bold projects to put America back to work won't be proposed by this administration.

Why is that?

Because Republicans will oppose them!

Well, we can't have that now, can we?

11. Perhaps, but of late, I started to think that repubs voted against ANYTHING that Democrats supported
regardless of the merits (or lack thereof).

is and always will be his Achilles Heal.

America would be better off if he got on National TV give the GOP the finger and told them to F off.

Sadly he will continue to go down the Bipartisan road and waste his time in office.

6. And it only took 14 months of puling and grovelling and capitulating!
Oh, and eviscerating the bill and rewriting in conformance to Bushpublican demand pretty much in it's entirety.
