Actor Jason Alexander hits teen bicyclist in Mid-City

Actor Jason Alexander, who played George Costanza in the long-running "Seinfeld" TV series, hit a teenage bicyclist Tuesday in Mid-City, police officials said.

The collision was reported shortly after 7:15 a.m. at Wilshire Boulevard and June Street.

The 14-year-old boy was on his way to middle school when he was struck. He was taken to a hospital in stable condition.

1. But we have a deal with the bicycles! They move out of the way when cars approach...

Seriously though, I hope the kid is okay.

And Jason Alexander seems like a genuinely nice guy, so this is probably very hard on him as well.

14. Yeah, maybe if the kid damaged his fender.
Culpability should play a role in deciding whether someone gets a big payday out of an accident. As the driver was not cited, I'd assume the cyclist was at fault. No jury should award damages for an accident caused by the person seeking damages.

15. I've been hit by drivers while I was cycling. No citations even thought their fault.
Know this.... cyclists are always in the wrong.

:sarcasm:

11. Why are teenagers and children allowed on public roads on bikes?
There's a reason they are not allowed to have driver's licenses until a certain age. If (as bicyclists have told me time and again) a vehicle is a vehicle and each one shares the rights and responsibilities of operating on public roads, why permit underage "drivers" to operate their vehicles on public roads?

20. Well, for one, there isn't any other way to get from one place to the other.
Seriously, how does a kid ride his bike to school, for instance without using public roads?

12. "Los Angeles police took an accident report and are investigating the incident..."
but Alexander was not cited."

At first glance, it seems like it was just an honest accident. My sympathy to everyone involved.

21. Costanza would have hit & run.
And then found out later the kid was his boss's nephew or fiancee's little brother or something.
