While We're On The Subject Of Racism... Here Is A Fantastic Reading List For Further Study
I couldn't believe I found this online... never thought to look. But I ran into this doing other research, and it is the 2003 course syllabus from one of my Econ teachers back in the early Eighties.

As you will see, the class was called, Economics 181 - The Economics of Racism.

The teacher was named, John Henry, and this is the guy that turned me/us on to the radical side of Mark Twain, as well as Chomsky, DuBois, Zinn...

Everyday in this guy's class was a revelation, and although I took it on a whim, I am so grateful that I did.

Anywho, the first link is the course syllabus with required and extended reading lists.

Link (.pdf file): http://www.csus.edu/indiv/h/henryjf/PDFS/181SylF03.pdf

This second link is his Selected Bibliography on Racism, and is expansive:

There's a goldmine in there... enjoy!

2. Count me as "idiot balance"
I just don't understand why anyone would feel strongly enough to "unrecommend" yet not comment?

10. Was this the list when you took it, or the current list. Really dated
The reading lists and bibliography are good, but seem to lack any recent works that would be appropriate. "Inheriting the Trade" or maybe "Sundown Towns" which was brought up in another thread a day or two back.

This list seems to stop about 25 years ago. Maybe I missed something.

I realize that a lot of these are interesting because of when they were written, others by JH Franklin, Stampp, Litwack are important works early in their careers.

It seems more like a 1983, rather than 2003, reading list. Maybe John Henry failed to update his course over the years.

11. I Took The Course In The Eighties...
His course Bibliography then, I'm sure, was not as expansive as the one I've cited/linked to here.

And as I stated, this is his coursework/information from 2003, so I do not know his current situation, nor his current bibliography.

And... could you please provide your new/updated bibliography to bring us all up to date? I'd really appreciate it, and I'd gladly add it to any future listings.

BTW - No more powerful writing than that that comes from those who were there.
