Laura Bush Opens Up About Fatal Crash
By ANAHAD O’CONNOR
Published: April 27, 2010

Laura Bush has finally opened up publicly about the mysterious car accident she had when she was 17, a crash that claimed the life of a high school friend on a dark country road in Midland, Tex.

Ms. Bush also suggests, apparently for the first time, that she, Mr. Bush, and several members of their staff may have been poisoned during a visit to Germany for a G8 Summit. They all became mysteriously sick, and the president was bedridden for part of the trip. The Secret Service investigated the possibility they were poisoned, she writes, but doctors could only conclude that they all contracted a virus. After noting several high-profile poisonings, she wrote, “we never learned if any other delegations became ill, or if ours, mysteriously, was the only one.”

But it is her description of the deadly accident, and its subsequent impact on her life and her faith, that is the subject Ms. Bush had most shied away from speaking about in her public life. On a November night in 1963, Ms. Bush and a girlfriend were hurrying to a drive-in theater when Ms. Bush, at the wheel of her father’s Chevy Impala, ran a stop sign on a small road and smashed into a car being driven by Mike Douglas, a star athlete and popular student at her school.

“In those awful seconds, the car door must have been flung open by the impact and my body rose in the air until gravity took over and I was pulled, hard and fast, back to earth,” she says. “The whole time,” she adds later, “I was praying that the person in the other car was alive. In my mind, I was calling ‘Please, God. Please, God. Please, God,’ over and over and over again.”

Ms. Bush concedes that she and her friend were chatting when she ran the stop sign. But she also suggests a host of factors beyond her control played a role — the pitch-black road, an unusually dangerous intersection, the small size of the stop sign, and the car the victim was driving.

.... boy who just broke up w/ her and that she ran the only stop sign for miles before the accident.

Typical bush when in doubt lie and make shit up, BTW it was the victim's car that was at fault too.

Couple of other whoppers by Laura:

W skipped stopping @ Katrina because he wanted to not take away from the rescue workers or the victims.

Nancy Pelosi was wrong for saying W was incompetent even though he was.

Harry Reid was wrong for calling W a liar even though he was a liar.

7. She had been through the intersection many times.....
She's not being honest here.

She was a teenager, after all. But this was a small town and a familiar stretch of road, according to an article I read by someone who went to high school with Laura Bush.

12. Just like a member of THAT family.
She blames everyone else but herself.

She broke the law, she wasn't paying attention, she caused the accident that killed that young man.

It wasn't the car, it wasn't the small stop sign.

She was driving on a dangerous stretch of road and wasn't paying attention, she was in a hurry and chatting with her friend.

About Katrina, again with the excuses, "he didn't want to interfere" -- they just don't get it. It wasn't about the flyover it was about not doing enough, not paying attention. It was about singing, eating cake and being a buffoon while people drowned or were suffering.

They have no heart, I don't care how they try to write one into their lives.

And they were not poisoned, that is a load of shit, trying to get pity and compassion. Lying pieces of shit, lying heartless low lifes

19. You nailed it!
That photo is spot on.

They all want to rewrite history. Laura has rewritten the facts of that accident and now she is content with rewriting the history in the White House. They are trying so hard to salvage something out of his administration.

21.  at the Olympics in 2008 this was bush being "tired" from the flight

Laura is trying to look the other way too. We really have a piss poor media.

BTW the NY Times failed to bring up that the young killed by Laura had just broken up
w/ her a day before.

air on that dark night as she was repeating "please god"

We don't have a media, we have advertisers who repeat the stories they are told.

Since when have the size of stop signs been variable? AND, they're usually placed at convenient places like intersections.

18. My cousin had a similar accident and a friend of his was killed...
It was a dark road with little light, overgrown weeds around the sign and both cars were speeding.

He was so traumatized that it took him years to get behind the wheel of another car. He's never forgiven himself even though it wasn't totally his fault.

27.  “The comments were uncalled for and graceless..." WTF?

>>>Later, Ms. Bush takes on Nancy Pelosi, the Democrat who is speaker of the House of Representatives, for calling Mr. Bush “an incompetent leader” and for saying he lacked judgment, knowledge and experience. She also bristles at the insults thrown at Mr. Bush by the Democratic leader in the Senate, Harry Reid, quoting him as calling her husband a “loser” and a “liar.”

“The comments were uncalled for and graceless,” she writes.<<<<<

Uncalled for and graceless????? Didn't her husband call a reporter a "world class asshole" or something? Didn't he ridicule a woman who was about to be executed? Did she ever listen to the venom and vomit that comes out of her mother-in-law's mouth? Does she know how her daughters behaved during their WH years? She needs to worry about the lack of "grace" in her own house of glass.
