Allow me to apologize
Edited on Tue Apr-27-10 09:54 PM by democrat0986
I posted a comment on the video in which Senator Franken is talking about the need for financial reform. The comment was "Franken sounds drunk here... He sounds like he needs to lay off the sauce." I apologize for my comments. Sometimes we say the first thing that comes to our heads and that was the first thing that came to mine. Now I want to make it very clear that I am NOT a republican troll. I am very progressive and I want to make sure that that is extremely clear. I have been asked to leave Democraticunderground for being a "troll". I even thought about doing it for a minute. The comments I recieved in response to my own angered me very much. But, because I understand where the anger is coming from, I decided to stomp that anger and make this post instead. From time to time, I am going to make comments that go against the grain. I may criticize the president some times (like when he lets Health care reform end up weak), but I voted for the man and I will vote for him again.
Lastly, I want you all to be aware that you are driving people away from this site by calling every dissenting voice a "Troll". It's ridiculous. I've been a member of DU for 4 years now and I'm not going to leave because I made one moronic comment. We all make them from time to time. It doesn't make us "Trolls". Again, I apologize for making the comment.

1. Wow. Four years and less than 200 posts!
That's some judicious use of the keyboard, my friend.

And if you were invited to leave, let me invite you to stay. (kind of a rec, unrec thing, right?)

'sall good.

5. I think you explained yourself well enough in the original thread
and that you don't really owe anyone an apology.

There is an attitude about post counts here that I quite often find offensive. I've been a DU member for almost ten years (I believe), but still don't have a lot of posts. There is usually someone who expresses something better than I do.

Here's to you. :toast:

29. Wow
That's pretty awesome. I've always wondered what it would be like to shake the hand of such a wonderful and powerful man. I was talking to a rethuglican the other day who said he wouldn't even go to the white house if he was invited. I couldn't understand that. Even if I were invited to the white house by the moron who left office in 2009, I would go. It's an experience you tell your grandchildren about, meeting the president. Even if the particular president you met was a moron like Bush. I would say "Johnny." Then I would readjust my false teeth and go on, "Did I ever tell you about the time I met the worst president this country has had since Buchannan? His name was George W. Bush."

14. It is ridiculous to have someone call you a troll
just because you made a dissenting comment. I am somewhat new here (about a year now) and I was called a troll a few weeks after I became a member. It is not a good feeling at all. I mean seriously, if there is any place online where progressives can come together and have a sense of comraderie, DU is it. But when an avid member is called a troll because of a comment against something the President said/did or against a Congressman/Congresswoman something has gone horribly wrong with the people here. I, too, voted for Obama and just about every other progressive candidate I could find on the ballot and will continue to do so even though I may not agree with everything they stand for or vote for. The offshore drilling statement by Obama a few weeks ago comes to mind since I didn't agree with that as well as the full repeal of DADT. I support that but it hasn't happened yet and he doesn't seem like he's intent on it. Anyway, I'm done blabbering I just wanted to make that point.

however - if you click on the profile icon next to the envelope looking thingy beside your name it says your join date at DU as "Aug 04th 2008". I don't say this for any reason other than to correct you on your statement that you have been a member for 4 years. I have no reason to think you a troll. Trolls become quite evident over time, not over any one post IMO. It's cool bro - we all make mistakes. :)

64. i did not feel that having a profile made me a member
i felt a part of this place since i began reading and watching videos here. for the most part, DUers and I are like minded. So, even though I have only had a profile since 2008, I still feel like I've been a member of DemocraticUnderground for four years.

62. Apology accepted
We all have said some things that we shouldn't at certain times or places.S--t happens. Hey I have been trying to work on my profanity but as you can see it doesn't go to well sometimes. And if I get a little heated I will spell it out in a heartbeat. Then get a little pissed with myself because I do have a vocabulary that is quite extensive that should be used instead. But sometimes I want that cuss word just to make it clear. Here's hoping you don't have to shy away from posting.:hi: :hi: :hi:

63. I missed the original thread

and I love Franken(Both as a comedian and a politician), but I'd have probably been kind of amused by the irony of people getting all outraged over a joke on behalf of a comedian that pushed the envelope as often as he did.

Maybe being a liberal or non-religious in this state desensitizes us to that sort of thing. We know everything we say will offend everyone around us, so we just figure "Fuck it.". ;) It's obvious you aren't a teabagger or a troll. Who the hell has the patience to reach that post count just so they can say Al Franken sounds drunk in a video?
