Just a thought as I prepare for work.

That deafening chant at the 2008 Republican Convention, with "Sister Sarah' as head cheerleader has to be worth a few points. why can't some Democratic group (move on comes to mind) create a 30 second spot with that chat as a centerpiece.

Here's my vision. The commercial has Sarah running her mouth about drilling, we pan the Republican audience wearing all that elephant nonsense and gleefully chanting "Drill Baby Drill" and then cut to the actual spill in Louisiana as the toxic oil hits the beaches, all the while listening to the ever increasing audio of the Republicans chanting "Drill Baby Drill". The final voice over "we can't take the advice of people who don't care about our future".

Here's you background.

5. Nope. Endorse is the right word. It was another "reach across the aisle"...
move that has worked so well in the past... :sarcasm:

Washington/AP) Reversing a ban on oil drilling off most U.S. shores, President Barack Obama on Wednesday announced an expansive new policy that could put oil and natural gas platforms in waters along the southern Atlantic coastline, the eastern Gulf of Mexico and part of Alaska.

Speaking at Andrews air base outside Washington, Obama said, "This is not a decision that I've made lightly." He addressed the expected outcry from disappointed environmentalists by saying he had studied the issue for more than a year and concluded it was the right call given the nation's voracious thirst for energy and the need to produce jobs and keep American businesses competitive.

"We're announcing the expansion of offshore oil and gas exploration but in ways that balance the need to harness domestic energy resources and the need to protect America's natural resources," Obama said, according to his prepared remarks released in advance by the White House. "This announcement is part of a broader strategy that will move us from an economy that runs on fossil fuels and foreign oil to one that relies more on homegrown fuels and clean energy. And the only way this transition will succeed is if it strengthens our economy in the short term and long term."

...

Obama made no secret of the fact that one factor in his decision was securing Republican support for a sweeping climate change bill that has languished in Congress. But Obama has long stated his support in favor of the "tough decision" to expand offshore drilling

4. If I were Obama, I'd use this to do a 180 on that.
He can still reverse it. I'd rather someone just admit they screwed up than stand by their mistake, knowing it's a terrible decision and endure the consequences.

3. I think BP may finally pull that stupid ad with the "can-do" older lady & the young guy who proudly
proclaims "We have lots of oil on our own shores"... yep it's all over Mississippi, Louisiana & Alabama..and once hurricane season ramps up, it'll be in Texas & Mexico & even Florida's west coast..

6. It is tough to claim high ground when you're already underwater (so to speak)
The Democratic president has just endorse east coast offshore drilling. When that happened, we ceded all right to supremacy.
