Dear Gawd! "The wetlands are relied on by all 110 neo-tropical migratory songbird species."
<snip>
The vast, sprawling coastal marshes of Louisiana, where the Mississippi River drains into the gulf, are among the finest natural resources to be found anywhere in the world. And they are a positively crucial resource for America. Think shrimp estuaries and bird rookeries and oyster fishing grounds.

These wetlands are one of the nation’s most abundant sources of seafood. And they are indispensable when it comes to the nation’s bird population. Most of the migratory ducks and geese in the United States spend time in the Louisiana wetlands as they travel to and from Latin America.

Think songbirds. Paul Harrison, a specialist on the Mississippi River and its environs at the Environmental Defense Fund, told me that the wetlands are relied on by all 110 neo-tropical migratory songbird species. The migrating season for these beautiful, delicate creatures is right now — as many as 25 million can pass through the area each day.

Already the oil from the nightmare brought to us by BP is making its way into these wetlands, into this natural paradise that belongs not just to the people of Louisiana but to all Americans. Oil is showing up along dozens of miles of the Louisiana coast, including the beaches of Grand Isle, which were ordered closed to the public.

One more consequence of the gusher that isn't widely known. There are going to be untold numbers of natural systems disrupted or destroyed by this gusher. One day, we will look around and a lot of the pieces of the natural world will be gone or diminished.

1. shrug.
A few people wanted to say they owned everything and everybody in the world, and many others let them make those false claims (although those with free will stolen are not to blame)

So let them have a tar ball earth.

3. We live on the planet too.
It's not as if just 'they' will have a tarball Earth.

Are you really that sure about that?

And yea, many people live on earth, and many animals, and many plants, what is your point?

Oh I get it, you are saying many people will have hardship. That is what has been being said, and yet people still allow people that think in profit first and imbalance to set social policy.

And like I said, those that had free will stolen, you can't blame, those lied to and manipulated, but there have been people messing things up for awhile.

6. Before this is all over, the toll will be much higher than that.
there may be hundreds of bird species in the wetlands, but there are millions of species of sea life in the gulf, including those that provide us with oxygen.
This is going to be an extinction level event. Maybe even of us.

8. I wish that they would
shite on the MFs before they are gone. It won't stop the problem, but it would be a message.

9. That is why it is our job.

It is a terrible responsibility, but if we do not take it up we will be vilified as long as our species exists. We must kill capitalism.

Solidarity ain't just for people.
