6. W looked like a kid in a new suit for the first time
KO noted that they had a practice dinner so W knew what to do-as much as he and Dana Milbank laughed about I really think that story was amazingly more spin to convey a downhome image of W. We know how/where he grew up I find it hard to believe that he wasn't taught what to do at such an affair.

9. Who designed the dress?
That is actually the designer's fault. If those decoratives wouldn't have been near the waist, the eyes would have lifted up to her shoulders and face, and flattered her the way it should have.

than the US. History Int'l had a show on the Crown Jewels and their age. I'd wear something that is older than the country I am visting. :)

one revolution to get rid of royalty on these shores, and now we're kissing her ass. She don't mean shit to me, just another inbred delusioned person that thinks they are in charge.

25. Actually, the thing QE2 is wearing looks more like a tiara than a crown.
A tiara's just a decorative hair ornament, although it probably cost more than all of us are worth. But it has no significance of royal position like the "crown jewels" do. Debutants, Miss Americas, prom goers--anybody can wear a tiara that can figure out how to keep it on her (or his) head.

and exploitation of third-world subjects through imperialism."

Oh, really? "ANY" ?

You might not want to be so sure of yourself... a whole lot of us have ancestors who participated in those things, whether we know it or not.

Even if you are non-white, it is possible that your ancestors participated, and that some of the ill-gotten gains trickled down to you.

Unless of course you and your family haven't accumulated ANY wealth...which could be from poor management of ill-gotten gains, not the lack of them in the first place.

I don't think Pickles would let him wear them to what is obviously going to be her only white tie dinner, thus they look like he's wearing his big brother's britches.

30. Updated Info
From another forum mrspie wrote:

his is what I read in the paper:

White tie dress is more strictly regulated than other forms of dress, and properly consists of:
• Black tailcoat with silk (ribbed or satin) facings, sharply cut-away at the front
• Black trousers with two rows of braid down each leg
• White stiff-fronted shirt
• White stiff wing collar (attached to the shirt with collar studs)
• White bowtie
• White low-cut waistcoat
• Black silk socks
Black patent leather shoes
Shirts, waistcoats and bow ties are now usually made of cotton marcella, although plain linen shirts and white or off-white silk ties and waistcoats are sometimes worn. Shirt studs and cufflinks should be silver or white. A white handkerchief and flower may be worn.
A lady must wear a formal ball gown when the dress is described as white tie.

........

And a British poster lord of the seas wrote:

The Ladies cover thier arms with long gloves at a White Tie Dinner

...

So George has the wrong shoes and no gloves for Laura..

So, OK, maybe Laura wasn't aware of the rule of white gloves, but what about her toadies?? Jeez, aren't they paid to know stuff like that? AND to tell her?!? It was the very first thing I noticed when I saw that picture, and everytime I see it I want to cuff her upside the head for being such a hick.

46. There was alot of ladies with improper attire at last night's dinner.
Alot of the dresses were long dresses, but not ball gowns or evening suit dresses. Some women showed too much arm and bosom without wraps, and I didn't see very many wearing gloves.

Once upon a time I had a more formal gown and gloves to wear to dinner than some of those women. Actually, I still have it, but it doesn't fit me any more.
