Muslim wins National Spelling Bee! Is there no end to the Horror!
Actually, she probably isn't Muslim, but since she's dark with a funny name, teabaggers will assume so!!!

WASHINGTON – No theatrical flourishes for Anamika Veeramani. She kept her hands behind her back and rattled off the letters of every word she was given — until she was crowned the spelling bee champion.

The 14-year-old girl from North Royalton, Ohio, won the 83rd Scripps National Spelling Bee on Friday, acing the word medical word "stromuhr" to claim the winner's trophy and more than $40,000 in cash and prizes.

Anamika became the third consecutive Indian-American bee champion, and the eighth the last 12 years. It's a run that began when Nupur Lala won in 1999 and was featured in the documentary "Spellbound."

Anamika was one of the favorites among the 273 spellers who began the three-day competition, having finished tied for fifth last year. She stood deadpan while the audience cheered, not cracking a smile until the trophy was presented.

1. Warm congrats for excellent work and a fine mind. There's quite a few
of us out here who don't spell very well.

Anamika Veeramani can. I hope some of that prize money pays for her tuition to a college of her choice.

I bet her class mates back in North Royalton are very proud of her. They should be.

3. Except that she has a Hindu name
She was terrific. :D

The person who won before the Indian-Americans took over was our beloved Jamaican, Jodi-Ann Maxwell (1998).

6. Man, some people are motivated!
When I was 14, all I thought about was girls, comics, girls, table-top gaming, girls, smoking, girls, movies and oh yeah, girls.

She's going places!

8. Is there some kind of controversy over this? Or are you just trying to manufacture some?
What point are you trying to make by framing her win like this?

Is she really Indian and Muslim or did you just make that up?

13. "Is there no end to the horror"? Basically, I was asking where that sentiment came from.
Thanks for playing though.

14. "Thanks for playing though". A typical snotty answer from you.
You asked, quote: "Is she really Indian" so I pointed out the answer to your question.

But you know what, it doesn't matter, it's what we have come to expect.

15. What I actually asked was
"Is she really Indian and Muslim...", but you chose to leave that part out for some strange reason.

The OP stated that a MUSLIM won the spelling bee, and implied that someone somewhere had a problem with a MUSLIM winning, for what reason I don't know.

That you've come to expect certain things from me means I've made an impression. Good. I like that.

9. winning word was "stromuhr"
which according to the medical dictionary is an instrument for measuring the quantity (or velocity) of blood that flows per unit of time through a blood vessel. (i had to look it up myself even though i've spent the last 15 years in medicine!)

how appropriate as she wants to be a cardiovascular surgeon. congrats to her!!!
