Boom greets Cheney in Baghdad : "thunderous explosion that rattled windows in the U.S. embassy"

Cheney: Iraq is still a dangerous place

By TOM RAUM, Associated Press Writer

BAGHDAD - Vice President Dick Cheney said Wednesday that Iraq remains a dangerous place, a point underscored by a thunderous explosion that rattled windows in the U.S. embassy where he spent most of the day.

After talks with Iraqi military and political officials, the vice president said Iraq's leaders seem to have a better sense now that they need to do more to reconcile sectarian and political differences.

"I think they recognize it's in their interests as well as ours to make progress on the political front," Cheney said.

Cheney spoke less than an hour after an explosion could be heard in the U.S. embassy where he spent most of the day. Windows rattled and reporters covering the vice president were briefly moved to a more secure area.

Said Cheney spokeswoman Lea Anne McBride: "His meeting was not disturbed and he was not moved."

A Boom In Baghdad

From the VP latest pool report:

Around 5:20 p.m. (local) there was a distant explosion that rattled windows at the building where the VP and the press corps are working today. Seasoned Baghdad hands, security contractors, troops and diplomats, said this happens regularly and didn’t seem especially alarmed, though the press corps was hustled two floors down to a basement “attack shelter.” The blast sounded like a mortar rocket. Five minutes later the all-clear was sounded. Awaiting word on whether the VP was moved or was even aware of the incident.

“His business was not disrupted. He was not moved,’’ said Lea Anne McBride, Cheney spokeswoman.

3. No moved? Please
Or maybe Cheney's bunch are as sick of him as we are, and are hoping the explosions would get closer.

I'm sure whoever set off the explosions are glad to know Cheney will be sitting tight so they can get better aim.

hahaha

10. He needs to stay there until the end.
Lord knows he camped out over at the CIA to get this war started. He should just stay in Baghdad and supervise things until the last American leaves Iraq.
