Yet another right-wing "good Christian."
:sarcasm:

This is another of those "good Christians" who have been hit in the head by a big family Bible too often. :eyes:

Obama proclamation mocks God's teachings

June 12, 2010 11:44 AM
To the editor:

Once again, our president has thumbed his nose at God and the infallible truths of His Holy Word by issuing his May 28 presidential proclamation for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender Pride Month.

Once again, he has brought our nation one step closer to the terrible judgment God has stored up for those who reject Him and His divine guidance. Not only does our president intend to convince all of us that sexual immorality is OK, in this proclamation, he also declares we should be proud of it.

Further, he presidentially proclaims that all of us who would prefer to choose God’s teachings over his are guilty of prejudice and discrimination. I don’t want to be anywhere near this man when God’s judgment is let upon him. Unfortunately, all of us who accept his principles will suffer similar results, and our entire nation will reap the horrors of these immoral seeds unseemly sown.

We need to be busy about laying up for ourselves treasures in heaven because, when God declares the time is right, we will certainly no longer enjoy the treasures we have in America. If you think this can’t come during our lifetime, think again!

1. You know what I never understand about these people?
Why do they care so much about what everyone else is doing? In relation to God, and Eternity, and everything else that they believe, isn't the United States nothing? Isn't their next life beyond what they should consider just little piddly stuff? In comparison to all they say that God is and that God can do, isn't what the rest of us are doing really quite small potatoes?

And really, if the rest of us are just moral cesspools, wouldn't their ability to be "not of this world" even more impressive to their God? They were able to withstand our sins with their great faith.

Just sayin'.

Unless, of course, this isn't really about their religion, their faith and their God, but it is really about control, power and greed. Then, they have to tear down. Then, they have to concern themselves with the goings on of this world.

Just sayin'.

(Really, I know the answer to my rhetorical statement. And I know you do, too.)

7. I think Pascal spoke to the scariest part of it, operative somewhere between your two extremes
of otherworldliness and venal control/greed: "Men never do evil so completely and cheerfully as when they do it from religious conviction." (Blaise Pascal, 1623-1662)

The True Believers really DO believe that God has a Providential role for America; to deny God is to expose the nation to judgment, and they will run over anyone's civil rights they believe are an affront to God. As you know, this has been the basis for the culture wars from the Puritans to the present day; the source of hostility between American Whigs and Jacksonian Democrats; the ideological basis for many of the religiously sanctioned social reform movements of the 19th century (post-millennialism, the "Benevolent Empire" and preparing the way for Christ's parousia)the basis for the ideology of Manifest Destiny, and all of the evils that have accompanied that sort of thinking.

I believe that, while their are certainly a fair share of those who simply want worldly, corrupt power, there are many, many more for whom this really IS about "their religion, their faith and their God." Therein lies the truest threat to human rights, imho.

12. THey're afraid that God's accounting department is sloppy.
Even though God himself may be infallible, inerrant, omniscient,
and all that other stuff, they're afraid that God's hired staff of
green-eye-shaded sin accountants may not be quite, umm,
"up to the job" in a fully Sarbanes-Oxley Compliant manner
of speaking.

So if there's some sin going on in the next house over, then
maybe the accountants will charge it off not (just?) against
those nasty sinners next door might but might either mis-account
for it completely and charge it off to the God-fearing righteous
non-homosexual. missionary-position-only and only because
God commands that the man "do his duty" neighbors or, worse
yet. maybe they'll just use some broad-brush sin reckoning so
the whole neighborhood or nation gets dinged for that sin.
"Fred, damn America again because one of our American
creations just gave a blow job to another American creation."

Their God is all powerful (etc., etc.) but they have no actual faith
in his judgment or his justice; that should tell you something.

God doesn't SOX.

14. Let's not forget
Jesus was surrounded by this supposed great sin.
The Romans were practitioners of this great sin.
Yet...Jesus mentions it not at all --- even in passing.
You'd think if it was that grave a sin, akin to murder, Jesus would have given it a mention

In fact, when the Roman Officer came to Jesus about his dying servant, Jesus told the Roman Officer, his faith had healed his servant.
There is a rather high likelihood that the Roman and his servant were having sex
That would have been Jesus' golden opportunity to throw in a "...and sin no more..." into the discussion.
But no

16. Because God will judge them on how many other souls they saved and how much of His Work they did.
(And yes, I see it even in churches that profess being saved by grace and not works.)

For those types, it's about how many models they've sold, with everlasting life their commission.

18. I think you don't know much about historical Christianity then.
If you did, you'd see it was started out of the opposite. It sure became a feature of modern Christianity in America, though.

9. I have one thing to say about these so called Christians
If they were so darn Christian why do they not embrace the poor, the needy, the different, and those of other religions. God did. So they put them selves above the God they worship. How can they be Christian. Sound more like devil worshipers to me.

11. Tried to rec this, but some good christians got there first...The old Hebrew god of anger
and retribution is very popular with the "religious"right...they seem to be able to read his mind and even extend his poplicy of destruction beyond whe he originally intended. Funny that these "christians" seem to embrace the "old ways" so much yet don't like the Jews at all...

I remember the bumperstickers in the Clinton years, "The Bible-God said it-I believe it-That settles it".
I was never very sure what they were talking about, and I'm certain they were not either...
