Do you think Obama will be re-elected?
With the attacks coming in from the right and the left, do you think Obama has a chance at being re-elected? How do you feel about the possibility of a republican winning in 2012?

Personally, I have not been pleased by everything Mr. Obama is doing, but the thought of a Palin or Bachmann winning terrifies me.

1. With every fiber in my body...I hope so.
The alternatives on the right are light years closer to total disaster for this country.

2. No - I think the dems will stay home and GOP will vote
and we will really be doomed and will deserve what we get.....

For my sake I sure hope Obama is re-elected but if dems are not motivated they will elect the GOP - and SS, Medicare, Education and Energy will be addressed by a republican administration and congress.

7. In 1982, Reagan looked in trouble. In 1994, Clinton was in trouble.
It's two and a half years until the 2012 election.

We won't know until summer of 2012 whether he will win again, or not.

14. Yup.
Of note, Clinton was polling in 1994 about where Obama is now. Also about the low point of his presidency.

And he went home with the highest approval rating of any exiting president in history.

Otherwise Dem voters may be completely discouraged.

Of course it's not like the Republicans have anyone good.

13. Barring something more amazing, no question.
Bush sat with a 25% approval rating in November '08.

Obama's sitting at 46% overall, about as low as he's been, IIRC -- 79% of Dems, and 44% of independents. Even 12% of the Republicans approve of him. Did Bush ever break the single digits with Democrats? And his high point in his second term is where Obama's low point it?

The sky is, at the moment, still hanging there just fine. DU can stay home, or all run out and vote, and not affect things a whit -- just like in previous presidential races.

16. It depends on who runs against him.
Mitt Romney could give him a run.
Sarah Palin would likely trigger a bigger turnout for Obama since most people would be terrified of a Palin presidency.

17. Depends on the job numbers.
If unemployment is still hovering around 10%, it is going to be very hard for him to win re-election.

If it goes down to 8% or lower, he will win easily.

19. Yes
The GOP is in a bit of disarray. Obama is holding around 50%. The bluster on the left is more hyperbole than substance. We aren't going to sit it out nor vote for a third party in any large numbers.

The real question is what kind of Congress will he have by then. Timmy may have given that away with his bonuses for Wall Street.

Obama will be free to position himself away from the right. Obama can once again be a proponent of change.

29. Except That He Can't Get Anything Done NOW, With a DEMOCRATIC Congress
Do you really expect him to enact any change when he's faced with a REPUBLICAN Congress?

Believing that Obama is only working for the right because the Democrats have control of Congresss...that's original, I'll give you that.

31. The point is not what he gets done. The point is how far from the right he's allowed to posture....
BECAUSE he has a Democratic congress, he can't very well say "I'd love to do X, but my party's congress prevents me. (Actually he's tried to say that a few times, but it still evokes chuckles.)

Next year, when he fights a REPUBLICAN congress, he'll be able to deliver victory after victory - if you define "victory" as a slight movement to the center of extreme right wing legislation.

Watch and learn.

23. Yes. It's 1.5 years (almost) since the inauguration
If the Democrats retain the Senate and Congress in the November elections, there will be further changes made by 2012.

It will take years to clear the stench of Bush/Cheney. What other messes were left behind? The President has had to play Mr. Fix-it and is not able to be pro-active as he hoped.

24. If the election were today, I think he would win.
But the election isn't for another 2.5 years, which is a lifetime in politics. I think his chances are still very good, but I try to never underestimate the stupidity of the American electorate.
