Man arrested for kissing small kid's foreheads
Man arrested for kissing kids in Santa Cruz
By Jennifer Squires jsquires@santacruzsentinel.com

SANTA CRUZ — A homeless man who was walking near the mouth of the San Lorenzo River kissing small children's foreheads Monday morning was arrested on suspicion of child annoying, Santa Cruz police reported.

Max Holise Cagle, 40, allegedly grabbed two boys, ages 1 and 2, near East Cliff Drive and Murray Street, near the railroad trestle over the river, around 10:20 a.m. He allegedly cupped their heads and kissed their foreheads, then continued on.

Santa Cruz police officer Barnaby Clark was on bike patrol in the area and found Cagle about five minutes after the 911 call reporting the kissing man. Cagle matched the description of the suspect, but he refused to stop for Clark. The officer was able to detain Cagle nearby and he was arrested on the 400 block of Beach Street police reported.

Cagle has "an extensive local criminal history," police reported, including arrests for assault and alcohol-related incidents.

The boys were unhurt, police said.

Could I have that law amended? I'd like to have my sister-in-law arrested for just being annoying.

I know this isn't funny, but what's next?

Interesting charge. Gee, I do that to my kid and step-kids ona daily basis. Glad I'm not homeless, I'd be in jail.

What a waste of energy for the SCPD.

17. Could they not have tried a warning first?
Geebus... Drunks sometimes become emotional and affectionate... While I wouldn't want him touching my child either, as described this hardly sounds like it was moving into sexual contact territory.

Honestly. When does common sense come into play? I have had homeless guys, (yes, who have obviously been drinking and a bit malodorous) want me to stop to let them pat my dog. As long as there are other people around, the dog is not reacting poorly towards them and I don't feel unsafe doing so, I always try to stop. These guys are people after all and I think a few minutes conversation and the chance to interact with my dog is not asking too much. If it were my child, I would politely ask them to refrain.

How about if they grabbed YOU & kissed YOUR head?

25. I did. I'm wondering if you would feel the same about a "polite warning" if he was grabbing random
women and kissing their heads. I find it telling that your basis of comparison is what you don't mind people doing with your dog.

Equating a dog with a child simply demonstrates that you don't understand the dynamic going on here.

19. I'm sorry. Am I supposed to be outraged that they arrested this guy?
If he was grabbing, touching or kissing the heads of random women, would it be okay? I doubt it. Why is it okay to do it to little kids?

I think there's a problem here, and pretending like this is 'picking on the homeless' or some such shit is ridiculous. You don't just grab random kids on the street, that's not ok.
