Gore Accuser tried to Sell Story for 1 Million Dollars
The masseuse who accused former Vice President Al Gore of attempted rape in a Portland, Oregon hotel room tried to sell her
tale of sexual assault to the National Enquirer for $1 million. The 54-year-old licensed massage therapist who made the charges against the Nobel Peace Prize-winning environmentalist in 2006 and 2009 had earlier forgone pressing criminal charges against Gore in order to seek monetary damages in a civil law suit.

The civil suit was never filed.

The National Enquirer says that she tried to sell the exclusive rights to her sexual assault story for a cool million. The million bucks would also have bought America's most famous supermarket tabloid a 50-page document as well as exclusive rights to her story. The doc likely is her detailed statement to the Portland, Oregon police, culled and edited down from the 73-page-long police report that is a matter of public record.

According to the Washington Post, Barry LevineThe Enquirer's executive editor confirmed rumors that the masseuse tried to sell her story for $1 million but said the tabloid didn't pay her. She was only briefly interviewed, and the Enquirer -- which had gotten a tip about her allegations -- got the story from the Portland police report. The tabloid did not contact Al Gore as they were afraid he'd issue a statement denying and their exclusive would be blown.

5. Yeah, this one sounds like a friendly GOP operative helped her come up with some
colorful details to embellish the story. I'd believe him having an affair with Laurie David sooner than this piece of twaddle.

6. One sentence admission that this is schlock journalism
"The tabloid did not contact Al Gore as they were afraid he'd issue a statement denying and their exclusive would be blown." It says they knew there was a significant chance that full information would make the story evaporate.

And people believe all the shit they read about Michael Jackson? Still. The Ignorami are what keep these parasites in business.

Look, the lame$tream media and tabloids (they're one and the same these days ie: medialoids) pay anywhere from many thousands to hundreds of thousands of dollars for 'dirt' on public figures and celebrities. I know people who've been contacted by them to dish dirt. ONLY dirt. They don't want positive stories. And it doesn't have to be true. And they can take some mundane piece of information and twist it, take it out of context, and blow it up and sensationalize it so that it is virtually unrecognizable from its original form.

It only has to SELL. Truth doesn't matter to the media. Only money does. Any moral sense or any sense of justice or of doing what's right doesn't matter to these entities. Only MONEY does. Just like BP. Just like Wall Street. Who owns the media? The same kind of predatory, parasitic psychopathic corprats that own BP. Pfft. EVERYBODY'S lives are expendable to them - just so THEY can make a buck. If they can make a buck off of lying about anybody, they'll do it.

Why the hell anyone puts any stock into anything the lame$tream medialoids say (whether it's the National Enquirer or CBS) is beyond me. There are a few they allow on the air because they get the ratings (ie: and with that the MONEY) - like Maddow and Olbermann. As soon as their ratings plummet, the'll be out of there. The rest? Bobbleheads.

Everybody wants to believe all about it. As long as it sells and people swallow it whole and refuse to look for their own facts and do their own research, it'll continue.

The Enquirer didn't run the story because Gore would have set the record straight and then they couldn't sell the bullshit thing. If they thought they could get away with it, it would have run.

7. Does anyone really care to read a post-mortem of a longtime marriage gone stale?
Edited on Fri Jun-25-10 07:54 AM by SoCalDem
The Gores are not unique. They married at a time when marriage at a young(ish) age was still the norm, and when divorce was a no-no... They dutifully popped out 4 kids, raised them, and now they are "done". The fact that he was political, probably made the marriage last longer than it otherwise would have..

It happens all the time.. Maybe there was cheating..maybe not.. why would anyone even care..
