Poll question: Do you give a "shit" that the FCC's "cussing" indecency ban was struck down?
For the moment anyway, our First Amendment got a little bigger today. It's amazing to me that in a world with such compelling concerns as multiple wars, global warming, famine, poverty, prejudice, and the BP oil spill to name a few - that some folks worry about such trivial concerns. FCC commissioner Michael Copps even sees this decision as anti-family.

WTF does hearing cussing on TV or in the movies have to do with our families being more (or less) a family? It's what's out there - and having worked in high school education for over 20 years, it's my belief that what makes a family strong has far more to do with love delivered consistently combined with positive reinforcement than some crazy assed belief that cussing will lead to the demise of our society.

We all got much bigger fish to fry than worrying about calling the word police.

NEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) -- A federal appeals court struck down the Federal Communications Commission's indecency policy Tuesday, calling the agency's longstanding rules "unconstitutionally vague."

A three-judge panel on the U.S. Second Circuit Court of Appeals said in a 32-page ruling that the FCC's indecency rules created "a chilling effect that goes far beyond the fleeting expletives at issue here."

FCC commissioner Michael Copps said in a statement that the court's decision was "anti-family." He said the FCC's policy was "constitutional and enforceable," but he called on the commission to "immediately to clarify and strengthen its indecency framework."

The appellate court's decision was a major milestone for television and radio broadcasters who have long complained the FCC's rules violated First Amendment rights.

Several years ago, the FCC had levied fines on scripted expletives but had typically been more lenient about accidental profanities uttered during live shows.

QUESTION: Do you support the decision to strike down the FCC indecency ban on cussing?

3. Yes, a Corporation should be able to exercise its free speech rights...
using profanity in a hour long campaign advertisement that is a complete fiction.

4. While I disagree with Mr. Copps' stance on this particular issue
I will state that Michael Copps is a goddamned hero. He's been valiantly fighting for net neutrality and against media consolidation for the last ten years.

6. It was fucking bullshit to begin with
The most ludicrous implication was that 30+ year old classic rock songs like Pink Floyd's "Money" or even the Stones' "Start Me Up" were now being censored. That wasn't even done at the height of Reagan-Falwell Moral Majority Mania. Maybe now this shit can get back to fucking normal.

10. I find it to be a non-issue, I'm a bit surprised it's taken as long as it has, really

the US has been considerably behind most of the rest of the world in broadcast censorship. Here in the UK, 'adult programming' (with nudity and explicit language, except, pretty much, for c**t...still too obscene for broadcast) is allowed between the hours of 2100 and 0530.
