My friend from Sweden, who is truly the coolest dude in the universe and a very insightful observer of events, was watching the news about Sherrod and offered this metaphor on the racial scare tactics of the American right:

"The racists are coming out of hiding like rats when a building gets demolished. The building in this case being complete and total control of the country by white men."

1. Before Obama it was easy to pretend racism was a thing of the past

now we know it was just waiting under the surface. In a way, I'm glad these people are out there exposing themselves. Now we know exactly what we're up against.
