And once again, we revisit the Briar Patch
The republicans and their propaganda division (FoxNews, for the uninitiated) are just doing what they always do, so I don't understand the anger & surprise over their latest escapade.

No matter which way the Sherrod story "ended", they still "win".

Sherrod was never THE story.....not the complete story anyway.

Republicans laid the trap, and democrats blundered right into it (as usual)

1. Sherrod gets fired...Fox & crew bloviates & rolls tape ad nauseum (they KNOW there's more, but they run with it as long as possible & shanghai news coverage proudly.)

2. The truth comes out, and now they have the flipside to run with.. They get to shame the dems for "throwing one of their own under the bus". This allows them to continue to shine a light on the state of race relations...with their own personal slant. They stand by as "victims", equally hoodwinked by that Rascally Breitbart kid, only NOW they get to pile on dems for being scared and overly eager to jettison a Black woman.

They win either way. Why? They win because they are always on offense, and they own the playbook.

They have been doing this for a very long time, and every time our dem leadership falls for it.

We all like to believe that there is a grand plan..a game of 3-dimensional chess in play, but the sad truth is that we have been lurching from one Fox News cycle to another for a very long time, and until there is a yin to their yang, or some legal solution to a political party owning its own mass-media outlet, we will always be dancing to the tune they choose to play.

Breitbart is their little jewel..He's apparently a pretty slippery guy, and must be well-represented legally, so they love the guy.. He's their very own one-man wrecking crew.

Anyone who ignores him or belittles him, is making a mistake. Breitbart & his cronies (O'Keefe et al) are busily collecting scalps & building their "credentials" for a full time, well-paid foray into right wing journalism. They know the money is there, and they are the guerrilla soldiers in the ongoing war....and it is WAR. Even when their schemes are exposed, they have little fear of ever being brought to bear for their part in them. O'Keefe skated in the Landrieu affair, they both skated in the ACORN takedown.

When anyone in power questions these types, the questioners are portrayed as big guys picking on "the little guy", and making a big deal about nothing, but when the desired goal is to get people fired or not appointed to a desired position, they know all they have to do is create doubt, and the dem leadership will do the rest, all on their own...and Breitbart & his pals just move on to the next target, knowing we will fall for it again.

1. they DO win. the story is already out there. the naacp is a racist organization.
that's all many folks needed to hear.

these fuckers know the power of letting the genie out of the bottle...that's all it takes....

release some false facts and it's coast to coast news, whether there is a shred of truth or not.

2. They call the tune - we dance.
They do it in the media - they do it on important
legislation.

They call the tune - we dance.

4. Other Fox News "wins"

  • Passage of health care reform that will help millions of people, an initiative they consistently labeled as "dead"

  • Passage of financial reform that expands oversight and regulation of the financial sector and definitively reverses 30 years of almost exclusively neo-liberal deregulation, a bill they fought tooth and nail

  • Extension of unemployment insurance payments that will save 2 million people from penury - a busted filibuster

The only Fox News "win" is their consistent ability to prevent even many reasonable progressives from seeing the forest for the trees.

5. I'll wait until after the Nov election to tally their wins.
Clinton had a successful presidency on paper, but his presidency will always be remembered for the Fox-driven impeachment.

There is no perfect presidency, but Fox is a permanent player in our lives now, and we ignore them at our peril..

Subpoena power is what the republicans are after, and if they get it in Nov, all bets are off..
