14. much like everyone in the BFEE
He has made a fortune off of taxpayers over the years. Sadly that does not prevent him from collecting the best health benefits this country offers. If he were joe shmoe he would have been dead decades ago.

12. I'm with you
Having recently spent a few days in the hospital, I can sympathize with anyone who has been in one for three weeks. I'd much prefer a Dick Cheney strong and health....and standing before a war crimes tribunal.

11. Having an LVAD put in is no walk in the park
and lengthy hospital stays are the norm.

Remember, these things aren't put in until the patient is days--or hours--away from death. That means all body systems have been damaged and need time to recover as the LVAD begins to supply adequate blood to them for the first time in months or even years. It will take a great deal of time before he is able to be able to function at home, at all.

He's been quiet because he was basically buzzard meat the day of the surgery and then had a major surgery piled on top of it.

I wouldn't change places with that man for all his money and Buffett's money thrown in.

at least that's the options a friend of mine had...and they were not too optimistic on him getting a heart soon..

37. It's a last ditch operation in a patient who really wants to eke

out as much time as he can and can afford massive copays for a long hospitalization. The patient either has to be intelligent enough to be compliant with sterile technique and the other stuff he has to do to maintain the pump's function, as well as with rehab, or to be able to hire round the clock caregivers. I've mostly seen them used as a bridge to transplant, but they're now also approved for end stage congestive heart failure as an end in themselves.

As a bridge to an eventual transplant, I've seen them be miraculous, the patient building up strength and endurance he hasn't had for years as all his systems finally get adequately perfused.

I don't think Cheney will be a transplant candidate because he's not a good risk.

19. Running up a monstrous bill we'll be paying for.

He's surrounded 24/7 by high priced specialists and all the latest technology.

He's a damn Billionaire but still we get stuck for all his medical bills.

Anyone else would be told to go home and "get their affairs in order".
