There is no doubt that this is the primary issue on the minds of Republicans in Washington. They are doing a blitzkrieg of these types of ads all over the Internet. The Democrats cannot fold on this issue. They simply must not.

1. Somehow I don't think using images of Bush and Fred Thompson is going to help their cause...

4. "Keep the Bush tax cuts"
Edited on Sun Aug-01-10 03:04 PM by Recursion
Look at most DU threads about taxes and that will be the banner ad.

If you click on them, it costs the pro-tax-cut people money, which goes to DU. Not that I'm advocating gaming the ad system like that or anything.

3. This is my woodchuck issue
If the Democratic majority folds on this, I see absolutely no reason to keep Republicans out of the majority.

Oh, and linking to google ads doesn't work that way; it just serves up a banner based on the text content of the page, which in that case is nothing at all.

6. If you are using Google Chrome
you should download AdThwart. It blocks all ads.

7. Keywords on websites tend to generate relevant ads.
It's not just on DU that you see anti-Democrat ads. Often whenever a website discusses a subject, ads relating to the subject will come up depending on the advertising service. This I'm not an expert on but I have observed this based on my experience on the Internet. Luckily I use AdBlockPlus for Firefox and don't have to be inundated with frickin banner ads.

PZ Myers, the atheist blogger and biology professor, has commented about this counter-view advertising before.

9. An atheist podcast I listen to
Edited on Sun Aug-01-10 05:13 PM by realisticphish
http://www.irreligiosophy.com">Irreligiousophy actually encouraged listeners to click on the Christian ads that kept popping up. Especially LDS ads, since both hosts are ex-mormons. It was hilarious, but eventually some Judas (ha) reported them to Google, and they had their accounts suspended for "improper use." Even though they had actively complained to Google about the Christian ads, asking for them to be removed.

Ad algorithms REALLY need to be updated.

8. Bush was the greatest president who ever lived! Restore Bush policies! They really worked!

Gosh it's WONDERFUL to be reminded of Bush! Like, we just couldn't get ENOUGH of him!

Help the rich!

Help the overprivileged!

Help the morally handicapped!

If we give money to the rich it will all trickle down!

Yep, we'll all get TRICKLED ON.

Here's the DEAL:

Go to your bank.

Withdraw ALL your money.

Put it in an envelope.

Send it to rich people.

Bingo. You will instantly become rich.

FRED THOMPSON SAID SO!!!!!!!!!!!!

AND CRY ME A RIVER THAT BUSH ISN'T PRESIDENT ANYMORE.

WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH.

We should really bring back Herbert Hoover.

Now THERE was a great president. Just like in that "All In The Family" song:
