Fox moves to front row
The vote is in, and Fox News will be the one moving to the front the front row, the White House Correspondents Association announced:

The board of the White House Correspondents Association has agreed, by consensus, to move the Associated Press to the front row, center seat in the James S. Brady Briefing Room.

The board further agreed to move Fox News to the front row seat previously occupied by AP, and relocate NPR into the second row seat previously held by Fox, next to Bloomberg News.

It was a very difficult decision. The board received requests from Bloomberg and NPR in addition to Fox for relocation to the front row and felt all three made compelling cases. But the board ultimately was persuaded by Fox's length of service and commitment to the White House television pool.

The board also made a series of adjustments to the larger seating chart, including the addition of a new seat seat for the foreign press pool.

These deliberations mark the third time in four years the board has tackled this issue, and we urge members to view seating room changes as an ongoing process that will be revisited again as our industry evolves.

6. GigaF*ck the WHCA (R)
They just made it undeniable -- they are the RepubliCorporate Media Borg (R), and do not represent the people or the truth in any way, shape or form.

3. Well, there goes the neighborhood.
I think real journalism is going to have to go underground to fight guerilla warfare against the propaganda machine being created by Washington and both parties. I mean it's already half way there with media like Democracy Now! having to broadcast from way out there cable outlets not in the mainstream.

4. I could only read the first
part of this very devastating (imvho) story. Those people do NOT deserve such a seat. I could rant on but I would be preaching to the choir.

7. If a Fox presence HAS to be tolerated there
Then I hope Obama and his press secretary(ies) use that presence to humiliate Fox and their bullying tactics,
Put them down when they shout, tell them to shut up until they have their facts straight, and ignore them
altogether when they lie in their reporting about what was said in the briefing room (not exactly unexpected).

9. FOX News asserted in court there is no rule against distorting or falsifying the news .
In February 2003, a Florida Court of Appeals unanimously agreed with an assertion by FOX News that there is no rule against distorting or falsifying the news in the United States.
link to the story:

The media can legally lie, said Fox.
Which is true of all media, btw, so the issue of one on-the-court-record lying outfit being treated as an
"important" news source really moves the spotlight from the other news outfits who are vying for "front row"
status.
Tempest in a tea pot.
Who cares who is where, they are all MSM.

16. Credo says otherwise; says that Fox is out.... What's going on??

E-mail we received about 2 hours ago from Credo follows. Who is right, Credo or Politico?

---------------------------

We did it. We beat FOX!

You stood up, they backed down.

Because of your pressure, the White House Correspondents Association denied FOX the coveted front row center seat in the White House press briefing room recently vacated by Helen Thomas.

Dear Friend,

On Wednesday we asked: Should the White House Correspondents Association let FOX News have the best seat in the White House press briefing room and the legitimacy that it confers?

Your answer was a resounding "Hell no!"

In just four days, over 311,000 CREDO Action members and 180,000 MoveOn members — over 491,000 people — petitioned the board of the White House Correspondents Association and asked them not to give the best seat in the White House press briefing room to the rightwing noise machine's key propaganda outlet.

Just hours ago the board of the White House Correspondents Association met and decided not to give the seat to FOX.

There was clearly strong internal bias towards giving the seat to FOX. CNN reporter and WHCA board member Ed Henry publicly pledged to cast his vote for FOX before our campaign launched. And after we delivered the first 150,000 petition signatures, board member Julie Mason complained to an insider DC blog that "the reporters, producers and photographers from Fox News assigned to the White House are some of the best and well respected in the business" and furthermore accused us of "smearing" her "colleagues."1

While we're disappointed that the seat did not go to NPR, we're delighted the board found a way to avoid giving the coveted front row center seat to FOX. No doubt our pressure made a huge difference.

We need the country's most influential reporters to put journalistic principles before any kind of loyalty they feel to fellow members of the elite club which is the White House press corps.

Your participation in this campaign helped expose that choice. Every member of the WHCA board received updates every day on the growing numbers who were joining our campaign. When they cast their votes today, they were well aware of how it would be perceived by the public — and by the nearly half million people who spoke out during our campaign — if they chose to legitimate FOX.

That's exactly why we work to bring your voices and your pressure to bear on the decision makers at key moments. And today that outside pressure helped change the terms of the debate, and forced the White House Correspondents Association to confront the real issue: FOX News is a right-wing propaganda outlet not a legitimate news agency.

We don't win if we don't fight. You fought back and we won. By signing the petition, sharing the campaign on Facebook and email, and organizing your friends and family to join the fight, you made a difference. Thank you for making this campaign a success.

We realize this is a symbolic victory over who occupies a chair, but symbols matter. Fox plays to win — so must we. This is just one among many battles to lessen the massive power of Fox. We will celebrate briefly and then ask you to join together to fight again.
