Fox News to move to Thomas' front-row briefing room seat
By Elise Viebeck - 08/01/10 04:50 PM ET

The White House Correspondents Association voted unanimously Sunday afternoon to move Fox News to the front row of the White House briefing room.

The seating change was prompted by the resignation of veteran UPI reporter Helen Thomas.

According to Ed Henry, the senior White House correspondent for CNN and member of the WHCA board, the Associated Press will move to the front-row middle seat formerly occupied by Thomas.

Fox News will replace the AP in its former seat, also in the front row, and NPR, which lobbied for Thomas' seat along with Fox and Bloomberg News, will take Fox's former seat in the second row.

13. Musical chairs
AP moves to Helen's seat and Fox moves into the seat vacated by AP. I can quite undertand what mislead you - it is the title of the article which is misleading.

11. Yeah, its all 3D chess
Convince them they have power by acquiescing to their demands, and then ignore the hand in the front seat. Its all very, very plausible

12. The WH wouldn't dare to ignore Fox News, they might say something
mean and the WH's feelings would get hurt. Better to go with the flow...

I mean, really, what's left?

Every few days, maybe we can replace Gibbs with Rick Warren and really have a good presser

10. Gibbs is every bit as bad as pRick Warren already.
Yeah pRicky is a homophobic jackass Falwell clone in a Hawaiian shirt, but at least he never associated the one man who might have saved this country from its 30 year downward spiral, with Osama Bin Laden.

14. We certainly need a review
Of what constitutes an impartial news organization.

Reporters/editors giving money to candidates or endorsing candidates and working for them in any way ought to be the first clue.

17. yep, it's contradictory
although I think they meant the change puts Fox IN the front row, just not in Thomas' seat it appears.... Fox will be in the former-AP seat in the front row, while NPR actually gets Fox's former seat.

at least that is how I read it from the article:

'Fox News will replace the AP in its former seat, also in the front row, and NPR, which lobbied for Thomas' seat along with Fox and Bloomberg News, will take Fox's former seat in the second row. '

16. VERY confusing--so does the AP get the seat, or does Fox?
And, for that matter, WHY is Fox in there at all?

They are NOT press. They are pure propaganda. Is it a press briefing room, or a briefing room for both
the press and for propaganda organizations working for the sole advancement of one political party?

20. Fox did NOT get Helen Thomas' seat, the AP did.
The AP (Associated Press) gets Helen Thomas' center front row seat.
Fox gets the old AP front row seat.
NPR gets the old Fox second row seat.

"In 2000, UPI was purchased by News World Communications, a media company owned by Sun Myung Moon's Unification Church."

(Edit: Forgot to put that in quotes. Shame on me!)
