library faced protests over gay documentary
Haters gotta hate.

After several hours of people pointing their fingers in her face and telling her she was going to hell, Keturah Cappadonia cracked.

In tears, the 28-year-old librarian in Coudersport, a rural town of 2,500 people, sent an e-mail to Joe Wilson and Dean Hamer, canceling the planned screening of their award-winning PBS documentary about the challenges of being openly gay in rural Pennsylvania.

hate. Gays are handy, it makes the hatters feel good. We have a fair number of psychopaths in this country that hide under the banner of religion to practice their hatred. I used to love rural Pennsylvania, but no more, another area on my list to avoid.

7. you can't be serious
I grew up around the same area (rural north east Ohio as opposed to rural western PA) looking at a map I grew up about an hour and a half away from Oil City. I am also about 10 years older than the filmaker and about 20 years older than the kid featured. It was quite rough, let me tell you. He called his experience 8 hours of hell a day. For about four years of my schooling (grades 7 through 11) I would agree with that assessment. A day didn't go by that I was called faggot to my face as well as dozens of times behind my back. I was humiliated, especially in PE and at lunch. It was brutal. yeah and challenging.

8. Maybe I didn't express myself well
I meant updating the story to show that you can't even try to TALK about the challenges without small minds getting overexcited and trying to prevent others from educating themselves. I certainly didn't mean to suggest that what happened at that library was as brutal as what you describe or what is in the documentary, if that's what you were thinking.

9. They could have turned a camera on and let it record
That's all the documentation needed to prove how hard it is when you have monsters like that running around.

12. The library board and staff did a great job.
I hope they get a lot of nice letters for what they did for that community.

13. My opinion of librarians is raised even higher.
I have seen example after example of librarians standing up for intellectual freedom. The hatefulness of the so-called "Christians" in Coudersport is appalling.
