Crist Leads in Florida Senate Race
<snip>

"Florida Gov. Charlie Crist is leading in the three-way Senate race, according to the latest Quinnipiac University poll out today.

Crist, who is running as an independent after leaving the GOP earlier this year, is leading Republican Marco Rubio 37%-32% if billionaire Democrat Jeff Greene is also on the ballot. If Democratic Rep. Kendrick Meek is on the ballot, Crist’s advantage grows slightly, 39%-33%, against Rubio.

Neither Democrat has broken a 20% threshold in the three-way polling. Democrats will elect their nominee in the Aug. 24 primary.

Crist’s advantage is based on two things: name identification and polling strength among independent voters. With a 53% approval rating, Crist is getting half of independent voters, 20% of Republican voters, and 40% of Democrats."
