Sen Al Franken: The most important post you値l read all day (Daily Kos Diary)
The most important post you値l read all day
by Sen Franken

Mon Aug 02, 2010 at 01:56:02 PM PDT

Okay, I値l admit it: That痴 kind of a big claim. After all, I don稚 know what else you値l read today.

But I do know that, whether it痴 a wacky conservative rant on the Fox News website or a diary on Daily Kos, it値l load at the same speed.

But imagine if that weren稚 the case.

I had a great time at Netroots Nation getting to meet many of you in person, and left feeling energized and motivated for the fight ahead.

But the fight ahead is a big one, and losing it could permanently damage the netroots, the progressive movement, and our democracy.

I知 talking about net neutrality -- THE First Amendment issue of our time.

and brightest politicians on the scene today.

Thanks Al! This should truly be the... Al Franken Decade.

8. No, not really, I think.

A lot of the communication skills you need in politics are ones that are probably honed quite well by the practice of verbal comedy. And it's also a good way to build up name-recognition.

10. Certain "comedians" are better classified as philosophers.
Will Rogers, George Carlin, Colbert, and Franken come to mind as handy examples.

There is actually a long tradition of this; the court jesters were often the only ones who could tell the monarchs what they needed to hear.

33. Doing a great job. I used to listen to his radio show. I think he really got a great
feel from that of what people in America want. He got elected and did something few politicians today have done, and that is improve. He didn't just take care of a few things he promised on the campaign trail, he has principles and is preaching them. Trying to show people why this is a better way and why the Progressives are right.

24. There are people unrec'ing threads that aren't about jobs or ending the war.
This is an important issue, but likely not to those who constantly ask, "will it create jobs"?

28. Sign up. We need a lot more signatures.
I have been reluctant to say much about this because I don't really understand it, and I am afraid I will be tricked. The language "net neutrality" is difficult to understand if you aren't very computer savvy. But I signed Al Franken's petition because I trust him.

Thanks for posting this.
