Son of war critic is killed in Iraq
I have to say when I read this headline my heart lumped up--afraid it was Webb's son. Thank you for your service to your country First Lt. Andrew J. Bacevich.

BOSTON – The son of a Boston University professor who has been a critic of the war was killed in Iraq, the Defense Department said Monday.

First Lt. Andrew J. Bacevich was the son of Andrew J. Bacevich, an international relations professor who has said that the United States is mired in a war it cannot win through military might alone.

U.S. military personnel killed in Iraq

"Our reckless flirtation with preventive war qualifies as not only wrong, but also stupid. Indeed, the Bush Doctrine poses a greater danger to the United States than do the perils it supposedly guards against," the elder Bacevich, a West Point graduate and retired Army lieutenant colonel, wrote in an opinion article in The Boston Globe in March.

"We urgently need to abrogate that doctrine in favor of principles that reflect our true interests and our professed moral values," he wrote. The Globe said he declined to comment Monday on his son's death.

2. Heartbreaking
All these young American lives ending so tragically. As John Kerry said a generation ago, "Who will be the last to die for a mistake?"

3. Tragic.
I feel for the father, the retired army officer and professor in that order. There is so much unnecessary loss to families, our military and the reputation of our country and Constitution resulting from the reckless policies of the * mal-administration.

I also hold HRC and similar hawks in both parties that refuse to acknowledge their complicity in granting, signifying and promoting the false invasion and subsequent occupation.

We are going to be hit again thanks to them. Consequently, I cannot cast a vote for these egoists that continue to support their “bring it on” votes for this unprovoked military action. In the meantime, yet another family weeps. And for what?

Hello, Karma.

It’s coming at us big time. Unfortunately, the * administration is at best incapable and more than likely aware of these threats and yet willing to allow them to happen on the next President’s watch.

I have no proof positive other than the last six years of the * administration. And now that the wheels are finally coming of the cart of the neo-con agenda, how can it be any more plain? They do not respect our Constitution.

Can you say Raygun?

5. I think after a time of mourning, Professor Bacevich
will come out with an article that is going to slap down the supporters of this war something fierce. Bush had better have that Paraguayan ranch ready real soon, I would not want to be him going around this country after this is over.

6. I have a son ...
... who is the light of my life. I never see a story like this without thinking about what that kind of loss would do to one's life, to one's soul.

Oh, dear God, for the day these kinds of stories are just ancient history, and not tomorrow's inevitable headlines.

What kind of people think this accomplishes anything of value? And why are such people in a position of power in our country?

7. they are driven, Nance...
driven by machismo and arrogance into believing their way is the only way, that their world view must be fought for, with the blood of anyone's son or daughter, and innocents may die to, but it's for the greater "good". A lady friend of mine, who's a Christian like me said she thinks we might have to nuke Iraq...... I dropped my jaw when she said that.... the twisted logic that makes someone feel that way is unfathomable. I said several things to dispel her arrogant comment, but the fact is, she's not alone in that thought...

8. Of all the regrets (and there will be MANY) ...
... that will come to light when the darkness of this administration is exposed, there will be none as regretful as those "Christians" who chose to be dissuaded from their true faith by the wolves-in-sheep's clothing, the false prophets they were specifically warned against, and those who allowed themselves to believe that the Prince of Peace was actually a god of war.

9. speaking the truth!
that's right on, Nance... it's going to be a long line of shamed folks. Like John Edwards heard or came up with, 'find something else to be patriotic about other than WAR'... I can't imagine thinking "I love Jesus for those great weapons of war He gave us to use!"
ick.
The 12 Evangelical leaders who went and met privately with Bush about the Middle East is disturbing to say the least - they should be saying, we won't talk to you unless you remove the troops from Iraq.

11. Romney's obviously told their kids
they are no good to the family dead, so they were told it was good for them to become doctors and lawyers... one said, when asked why none had joined the military, "there are other priorities".

That will DEFINITELY cost him votes when it gets out that he wants to be the rethug candidate and all 5 of his sons went to fancy colleges and not one of them did anything involving the military... for me, I would encourage my sons away from such things, but these are the rethugs were talking about, they're supposed to be so pro military and all...
