Thank you , Eleanor Holmes Norton, for shifting Big Ed into neutral.
Regardless of whether Rangel and Waters are guilty of the allegations made against them, they are as entitled to due process as you or I. They have not been convicted. Political calculations as to how public perceptions may affect the election this year are another thing entirely. They are still entitled to confront their accusers and to make their cases in the appropriate venue.

4. Congressional ethics probes don't require due process
They aren't criminal sanctions. And unlike a criminal case, even the appearance of wrongdoing can be enough.

However, no formal charges have yet been made anywhere yet and these individuals still have the right to defend themselves.
