Head em' off at the pass!! The Christine Amanapour Appreciation Thread.
I've never done one of these "appreciation" threads before, but I have been a fan of Christine's reporting for years. After seeing some Repukes taking shots at her already today, and after seeing Sharron Angles brilliant quote of "But I want the media to ask the questions that I want to answer" I thought maybe we could head off the neocon bullshit and show our support for what is probably one of the last true journalists left in the world.

Christine is intelligent, informed, and easy to listen to. She's not afraid to get in the field, and she doesn't play any political games, she reports the facts and doesn't have time for political bullshit.

If the entire US media was full of Christine Amanapour's our fucking problems would damn near be over.

:toast: Go get em' Christine.

1. Let me join you in congrats to Christine for her new show.
She is by far one of the best journalists we have today.

3. I'm in!
I've always loved her! For all the reasons you list here, and now because she's not a Pubbie favorite!

6. Yeah...she really impressed me when she referenced Billy (always wrong) Kristol
to make a point with Pelosi. She lost an awful lot of creds with me, so I switched her off. Kristol is the last person a serious journalist would cite for anything.

7. Not to nit-pick
but her name is Christiane, not Christine.

8. She is more progressive than she gives away on the air...
She gave the commencement address at Michigan several years ago (I was a proud father). She is an intelligent and well spoken journalist.

9. I've been watching...
I've been watching Christiane Amanpour since she was dodging bullets in Sarajevo. She's not afraid of anyone or anything and she's consistent. You can expect to see more of the same.

10. She's not the problem. The short-sightedness of the American Public IS.
If I remember correctly, it was announced when she was chosen to head the show that it would take on a more international flavor, and focus on foreign policy issues more than domestic ones.

The American Public at this moment isn't concerned with how she sees the world, it's more concerned with where the next paycheck is going to come from, and how they're going to put food on the table for their children.

I think it was the wrong tack to take, and will end in her being let go as host. I predicted it to be this way when she was announced as the new host and the show's direction change was put out there.

I love her, don't get me wrong... I just think it was a bad choice of direction for the show.

11. I agree that the concept of the new "This Week" won't get the ratings.
ABC is obviously trying to differentiate itself from its Sunday morning competitors, which is understandable.

You're right, though, that Americans are now focused on their wallets, not on a talk show about international topics, despite the wonderful Ms. Ampour.

"Face the Nation" and "Meet the Press" will probably get more viewers now. I'll give Christiane some more time, but I'm more interested in the domestic scene right now myself.
