Obama, please STOP THIS CRAP!
Edited on Mon Aug-02-10 11:53 PM by Elwood P Dowd
Stop that soft and genteel talk about "tax breaks for the wealthy". Kick some ass, get serious, and say "tax breaks for the freaking millionaires and billionaires who already have more money than 90% of the American people combined"?? Ask the American people why Bill Gates deserves a tax break when he already has more money than he can spend and the rest of us are worried about keeping our freaking job or putting food on the table for our kids! It's time to get down and dirty and kick some ass. Being mister nice, let's all be bipartisan, pretty boy ain't gonna' cut it.

Stop using "the previous administration" crap. Start naming names, including Bush, Cheney, Boner, McConnell, and THE FREAKING REPUBLICAN PARTY! The time to go on the offensive is NOW!

not this "previous administration" crap. Soft and genteel terms like "previous administration" and "the wealthy" will NEVER register much response from the average Joe Six-Pack voter.

6. Agree, about being specific. Also, atm he seems to be overusing cliche sound bites
to catapult the propaganda (even though at one point during his campaign he talked about the lesson he'd learned about not doing that).

Repetition is more of a conservative tactic. Progressives prefer variation on the theme (which is our strength, and even appeals to the progressive part of conservatives).

It's good to use sound bites if you can keep them animate: "Hope" and "Change" meant something once and will again; but if something is trying the nerves of progressives then it's probably not getting through to conservatives or regressive reactionaries either.

8. You know he wanted this job. Now that he has it he doesn't show
ANY of the drive and spine he showed when he was running against Hillary and McCain. WHY??? That is what I don't understand. He seems wishy washy. I know he has done a lot of things for the country but they were mostly watered down thru trying to get republicans approval.

He has to learn they are never going to approve of him. First he is a Democrat and second he is black. The tea bags, the radical religious nutso and the republicans will never ever give him their support. So you are correct why in the hell doesn't he just start kicking ass.

11. Absolutely. Grayson has the support and respect of many repugs here in Orlando
because he's a "tough guy"; those people care less about their issues than they do falling behind a strong protective hard assed "father figure". Grayson has beat out all GOP challengers in polls WITH REPUBLICANS-and, of course, Grayson is far to the Left of Obama on the issues. Obama could learn a lot from him.

10. Yes, too many middle class people identify with the word "weathly".
Edited on Tue Aug-03-10 10:55 AM by OnionPatch
I know a lot of them who are only middle class but since they make about 100k a year, they imagine themselves in that "wealthy" category. "Filthy, stinking rich" is a better phrase. He also needs to pair any discussion about this with the facts: the wealthiest have been getting more wealthy, while everyone else has been taking big hits. Also, these "wealthy" have NOT created jobs at all since they've received their tax cuts. I do wish Obama wouldn't play into their hands like that by using their memes.

13. Hell, I know people who make 48k a year who think of themselves as "wealthy"
because they were raised in extreme poverty. It has to be CLEARLY defined for them, otherwise they'll continue to act as foot soldiers for the very class that's waging war against them.

12. He should frame it as "Restoring the tax rate to it's proper level."

14. He should definitely start using billionaires instead of wealthy. As the poster above said
too many fucking people don't even understand that the term wealthy does not apply to them.
